About the Role
Rarely do opportunities arise that allow you to be both a recognised subject matter expert and a people leader.
As Coordinator Debt Management, you'll lead a specialist team responsible for rates debt, sundry debt, hardship support and recovery services while helping shape the future direction of debt management at Casey. You'll oversee a team of debt management professionals, provide expert advice on complex matters and contribute to strategic decision-making across one of Victoria's largest local government revenue functions.
This role offers a unique combination of leadership, technical expertise and organisational influence. You'll be comfortable stepping into complex matters when required while creating the environment, clarity and accountability that allows your team to succeed. You will lead a team of experienced professionals, support capability development and foster a culture where people are empowered as subject matter experts and encouraged to identify opportunities for improvement.
The next 12 months present an exciting agenda. You'll play a key role in reviewing and implementing Casey's Hardship and Debt Management policies, helping shape how Council supports residents experiencing financial hardship while balancing long-term financial sustainability. You'll lead process improvements, support preparation for future system changes and work closely with senior leaders to improve arrears management outcomes and strengthen service delivery.
For an experienced debt management professional looking to broaden their leadership impact, or a people leader seeking greater strategic influence, this is an opportunity to make a genuine difference to both Council and community outcomes.
What You’ll deliver
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Debt Management Team, creating accountability, capability and engagement.
- Oversee Council's rates debt, sundry debt, hardship and recovery functions to deliver positive community and organisational outcomes.
- Review and enhance Debt Management and Hardship policies, ensuring they remain contemporary, effective and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve customer outcomes, operational efficiency and service performance.
- Support the ongoing evolution of systems, technology and processes, helping prepare the function for future transformation activities.
- Monitor performance, analyse trends and provide advice and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with senior leaders and stakeholders to improve arrears management outcomes and achieve strategic objectives.
What You’ll Bring
- Demonstrated experience in debt management, debt recovery, hardship administration, revenue collection or a related discipline.
- Proven people leadership experience with a track record of developing capability, building accountability and leading teams through change.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership.
- Experience reviewing policies, improving processes and delivering continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong judgement and stakeholder management skills, particularly when navigating complex, sensitive or high-risk matters.
- A collaborative leadership style that empowers others, encourages ownership and supports professional growth.
- A relevant qualification in business, accounting, finance or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Eligibility to work, National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check
