Liverpool City Centre | £50,000–£65,000 | Hybrid Working (3 Days Office / 2 Days Home)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Corporate Tax professional to join an established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice in Liverpool city centre.

This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of a varied corporate tax portfolio, working closely with owner-managed businesses, SMEs and larger corporate clients across a broad range of sectors.

The role is predominantly compliance-focused, although there will also be opportunities to get involved in corporate tax advisory assignments, providing a good balance of technical work, client interaction and commercial involvement.

You'll work alongside experienced Partners and senior colleagues, playing an important role in managing client relationships, ensuring high-quality service delivery and supporting the development of junior team members.

This would suit an existing Corporate Tax Manager or an ambitious Assistant Manager looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and well-established practice.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage a varied portfolio of corporate tax clients, overseeing compliance assignments from start to finish.
  • Review corporation tax computations and CT600 returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK tax legislation.
  • Oversee the preparation of corporation tax provisions and disclosures for statutory accounts.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing practical advice on their corporation tax obligations and liabilities.
  • Liaise with HMRC regarding enquiries, correspondence and compliance matters.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional tax planning and advisory support to clients.
  • Assist with corporate tax advisory assignments, potentially including capital allowances, group tax planning, business restructuring and R&D tax matters.
  • Work closely with colleagues across accounts, audit and other tax specialisms to provide a joined-up service.
  • Review and support the work of junior colleagues, providing technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Manage assignment deadlines, workflow and client expectations to ensure work is delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Build strong relationships with existing clients and contribute to the continued development of the tax department.

Experience and qualifications

  • CTA, ACA or ACCA qualified, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong background in UK Corporate Tax, ideally gained within an accountancy practice.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing corporation tax computations and returns.
  • Sound understanding of UK corporation tax legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing client relationships and overseeing multiple assignments.
  • Exposure to corporate tax advisory work would be beneficial, although a strong compliance background is the main priority.
  • Experience reviewing the work of junior colleagues or providing technical guidance.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • A personable, proactive approach with an interest in developing long-term client relationships.
  • Applications are welcomed from existing Corporate Tax Managers and experienced Assistant Managers ready to progress.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary of £50,000–£65,000 depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, with 3 days in the Liverpool office and 2 days working from home.
  • Excellent city centre location.
  • Opportunity to manage a varied portfolio of corporate clients across different sectors.
  • Exposure to corporate tax advisory work alongside an established compliance portfolio.
  • Close working relationships with experienced Partners and senior tax professionals.
  • Ongoing technical development and opportunities to broaden your advisory experience.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of client relationships and contribute to the development of the team.
  • Long-term career development within an established independent accountancy practice.

Company culture

This opportunity is with a well-established independent accountancy practice that has built a strong reputation across the North West for providing high-quality accounting, tax and business advisory services.

The firm works with a diverse range of businesses and prides itself on developing lasting relationships with clients, providing practical advice and maintaining a personal approach to service delivery.

The working environment is collaborative and supportive, with an emphasis on professional development and giving individuals the opportunity to take responsibility for their own client portfolios.

Unlike some larger organisations, the position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers and develop meaningful relationships with clients, while benefiting from the expertise and support of an experienced wider team.

This would particularly suit someone who enjoys the technical side of corporate tax compliance but would also welcome opportunities to expand their involvement in advisory work over time.
