Our client, a Perth-based cost consultancy specialising in construction, civil infrastructure, mining, energy and major projects, is seeking an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to provide remote estimating and commercial support.
The initial engagement is 20 hours per week, with the opportunity to develop into a longer-term role as the business expands its offshore estimating and commercial support capability. Key Responsibilities
- Complete detailed quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities
- Prepare elemental cost plans and feasibility estimates
- Undertake civil estimates covering earthworks, roads, drainage, culverts and concrete structures
- Estimate building, structural, architectural and MEP packages
- Prepare first-principles estimates covering labour, materials, plant, productivity and subcontractor costs
- Analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Assist with tender pricing, commercial schedules and estimate reconciliation
- Prepare estimates with clear assumptions, exclusions and qualifications
- Review Australian drawings, specifications and tender documentation
- Assist with cost forecasting, budget tracking and cost-to-complete reporting
- Support procurement comparisons, variations, progress claims and commercial reporting
- Maintain accurate estimating models, databases and supporting documentation
- Work within established systems while taking ownership of assigned work packages
Requirements
- 3-5+ years’ experience in estimating, quantity surveying or a related discipline
- Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field
- Strong understanding of construction measurement and estimating practices
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation (Australian experience highly desirable)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent technical English and written communication
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfortable working independently with limited supervision
- Strong organisation and ability to meet estimating deadlines
Software (highly desirable)
CostX, Bluebeam, Cubit, Buildsoft, InEight Estimate, ARES PRISM, Cleopatra or similar estimating platforms, Power BI and BIM / digital drawing platforms. You don’t need experience with every system; strong estimating fundamentals and the ability to learn new platforms matter more. Exposure to AI-assisted estimating or workflow automation is an advantage.
Sector Experience (advantageous)
Civil infrastructure and transport, mining and resources, renewable energy / battery storage, data centres and MEP, industrial construction, major capital projects, commercial construction.
Initial Assessment
The successful candidate will complete an initial technical assessment period, covering accuracy and completeness of take-offs, understanding of construction methodologies, productivity and turnaround, quality of Excel models, and communication and initiative.
Long-Term Opportunity
This role forms part of a broader offshore estimating and commercial support capability. Strong performers may take on increased responsibility and help build a wider team across senior estimating and QS, civil and MEP estimating, procurement and tender coordination, contract administration, project controls and digital estimating.
Working Arrangement
Part-time, 20 hours per week, remote.
