About Xzibit
Xzibit is a Queensland-based experiential design and fabrication company. Our Museums & Experience Centres team designs and builds museums, galleries, visitor centres and heritage spaces, from first idea through to installation.
About the role
You will be the interpretive voice of our Museums & Experience Centres team. You own the interpretive strategy and content for every project, across written, audiovisual, digital and physical media, and you turn a client’s objectives into stories that stay with visitors long after they leave.
For the right person, the role extends to full Creative Direction: leading concepts, shaping the visitor experience and presenting your vision to clients. Concepts are signed off with our General Manager before they go to the client.
A good week might include a site visit, a client workshop, a brief for the AV team and a round of exhibit copy.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead scoping workshops with clients to agree the goals and outcomes of each project.
- Interpret client briefs, present creative concepts and reverse briefs, then carry the approved direction through to delivery.
- Lead creative direction on projects where your experience supports it, from first idea through to the visitor journey.
- Research client content, historical context and audiences, and own the interpretive strategies and frameworks that guide the visitor experience across every medium.
- Write clear, accurate, engaging copy for labels, panels and interactive displays.
- Brief our design, AV and content teams and suppliers so the finished work stays true to the interpretive intent.
- Shape and quality-assure audiovisual, digital and interactive content, and manage the content process end to end, including accuracy, version control, delivery dates and client handover documents.
- Run site visits, and help with tender concepts, quoting, scheduling and troubleshooting.
- Stay across industry trends and emerging technologies, and join project debriefs so we keep improving.
What you’ll bring
Must have
- Proven experience developing exhibits or interpretive content for museums, galleries, visitor centres or heritage organisations.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling across formats and audiences.
- Experience leading creative and interpretive direction on projects, or the talent and drive to step into it.
- A degree in museum studies, history, creative writing or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with AV production and interactive technologies.
- A background in education or training.
What we offer
- Work with a lasting impact. Help create museums, visitor centres and heritage experiences that connect people with stories and places.
- Real creative ownership. Shape the interpretive approach and see your work develop from early concepts through to installation.
- Open communication. Regular team catch-ups, 1:1 meetings and company updates, alongside social events with our team.
- A competitive salary, with incentives tied to our shared business goals.
- An ambitious, growing team that is committed to raising the bar on what we deliver. Our office and workshop are at the top of the Gold Coast, QLD, and we’re open to candidates from around Australia.
How to apply
Send your CV, a short cover letter and two or three samples of your writing and creative work. In your letter, tell us about one project you’re proud of: the idea, your role and what it did for visitors.
We will reply to every applicant, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and a short task exercise.
