Responsibilities
Debtor Assessment and Credit Limits
- Assess debtor creditworthiness using internal data (AR aging and trends, payment history, DSO, dilution, disputes, limit utilization, and client concentration) and external sources (credit reports, liens, bankruptcy, and sanctions checks).
- Verify the operating authority of Canada and U.S. transportation debtors and identify risks.
- Set, increase, decrease, suspend, or cancel debtor credit limits within delegated authority and in line with the Debtor Credit Standard and the company's risk appetite.
- Prepare written recommendations with supporting evidence for limits above delegated authority and escalate them to the Credit Committee.
Daily Credit Tickets
- Review and decide daily debtor credit tickets, including the requests raised by Client Relationship Managers, the Data team, and clients.
- Prioritize funding-related tickets so decisions are made the same day, meeting service targets and wire cut-off times.
- Review new debtor profiles submitted, perform duplicate checks, and link to existing debtors or create new debtor records with all mandatory fields completed.
- Close each ticket with a clear decision (approval, conditional or temporary approval, or decline), documented rationale, and the decision sent to the client.
- Communicate declines, conditions, and temporary approvals to Client Relationship Managers, including any steps required from the client or debtor.
Review and Monitoring
- Review expiring and existing debtor limits, balances, aging spreads, and payment patterns, adjusting limits as credit quality changes.
- Act on early warning signals from Collections, Client Relationship Managers, and credit monitoring alerts, placing debtors on hold or no-buy status when warranted.
- Assist the Underwriting team by assessing the creditworthiness and concentration of debtors associated with new clients.
- Flag fraud indicators and suspicious debtor activity to Client Relationship Managers and Risk and Recovery team.
- Maintain accurate debtor records and track ticket volumes, turnaround times, and decision outcomes for reporting.
- Identify and escalate emerging risk issues to the Director of Credit and Underwriting, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with ad hoc requests as needed.
Qualifications
- 2-6 years of experience in commercial credit, trade or debtor credit, credit analysis, or a related role.
- Post-secondary education in finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and interpret commercial credit reports (such as D&B, Equifax, Credit Safe, or Ansonia) and financial statements.
- Solid understanding of B2B credit risk, credit limits, aging, and payment behavior.
- Sound judgment and the ability to make quick, well-documented decisions within delegated authority.
- Experience developing or maintaining credit reports, dashboards, and portfolio analysis.
- Strong attention to detail, with the discipline to follow established procedures under time pressure.
- Clear written communication for decision notes and stakeholder updates.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with factoring software is an asset.
- Experience in factoring, transportation, or freight brokerage is an asset.
What We Offer:
- Competitive compensation plan
- Employer matching RRSP program
- Flexible work schedule
- Opportunities for growth and development
- Excellent health, dental, and vision benefits plan
- Team outings and social events
