Criminal Justice Adjunct Faculty Description

South College Online seeks qualified candidates for an Adjunct Criminal Justice Faculty position. Successful candidates will possess a graduate degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Administration of Justice, or a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in criminal justice and demonstrated success teaching criminal justice courses in an online learning environment.

The position is fully remote and will report directly to the Department Chair of Legal Studies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Criminal Justice courses in an online learning environment.
  • Facilitate meaningful classroom discussions and maintain consistent engagement with students throughout the course.
  • Provide timely, substantive, and individualized feedback on student assignments and discussions.
  • Grade assignments in accordance with established institutional timelines and policies.
  • Conduct appropriate outreach to students who may be academically at risk.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, participation, and grades.
  • Promote critical thinking, scholarly writing, and the practical application of criminal justice concepts.
  • Apply professional and real-world criminal justice experience to enhance student learning.
  • Adhere to established curriculum, academic policies, faculty expectations, and institutional requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and other faculty to support course quality, student engagement, retention, and academic success.
Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Administration of Justice, or a closely related field.
  • Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours directly related to Criminal Justice.

Experience

  • Professional experience within the criminal justice field is required, including experience in areas such as law enforcement, investigations, corrections, courts, homeland security, emergency management, or public safety.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with prior successful college-level online teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary criminal justice practices, policies, legal principles, and ethical standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet established grading and student-contact requirements.
  • Ability to provide meaningful, individualized feedback and effectively engage students in an asynchronous online learning environment.
  • Commitment to academic integrity, student learning, retention, and success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with department leadership and adhere to institutional policies and established curriculum.
