Are you excited by hands-on engineering and working with some of the world's most advanced cryogenic systems? We are looking for a Cryogenic Engineer to join our team and help operate and maintain dilution refrigerator systems used in quantum technologies and scientific research. In this role, you'll work closely with experts across engineering, physics, and product development while contributing directly to technologies shaping the future of quantum computing. Interested? Keep reading!
In this role, your tasks will include operating and maintaining dilution refrigerators used for quantum measurements and quantum computing, as well as planning and executing cooldowns, warmups, and low-temperature measurements. You will service cryogenic equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, ensure safe operation of cryogenic and gas handling systems, and support the continuous improvement of Bluefors technologies.
We are looking for a hands-on engineer with experience in at least two of the following areas: cryogenic operation and measurement, equipment service and maintenance, or industrial applications involving cryogenic systems and pressurized gases. You enjoy solving practical technical challenges, work systematically and safely, and are comfortable taking ownership of your work. A degree or vocational qualification in physics, engineering, or a related field is beneficial, but we also value equivalent practical experience. In addition, you communicate effectively in English and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Experience with vacuum technology, helium leak testing, cryogenic thermometry, gas handling systems, or cryogenic wiring is considered an advantage. Familiarity with scripting, instrumentation, or Python is also beneficial. Most importantly, we value curiosity, a practical mindset, and a willingness to continuously learn and develop your expertise.
We offer you an interesting and meaningful role at the forefront of quantum technology. You will join a highly skilled international team and work with world-leading cryogenic systems in an environment that encourages collaboration, learning, and innovation. This is an excellent opportunity to grow professionally while making a tangible impact on technologies that enable scientific and technological breakthroughs worldwide.
Main responsibilities:
Operate and maintain dilution refrigerators used for quantum measurements and quantum computing
Plan and execute cooldowns and warmups of cryogenic systems
Perform low-temperature characterization measurements
Service and maintain cryogenic equipment and infrastructure
Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve system faults
Handle liquid cryogens and pressurized gases safely
Document measurements, maintenance activities, and findings
Collaborate with product development and research teams
What we expect from you
Degree or vocational qualification in physics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Experience in at least two of the following areas:
Cryogenic operation and measurement
Equipment service and maintenance
Industrial cryogenic or pressurized gas systems
Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
Alignment with Bluefors' Leadership Principles
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
We also appreciate
Experience with vacuum technology and helium leak testing
Knowledge of cryogenic thermometry and gas handling systems
Soldering, cryogenic wiring, or other precision technical work
Experience with Python, scripting, or instrument control
Curiosity, a growth mindset, and a collaborative way of working
