About OpenLiteracy
40% of fourth graders in this country read below grade level. At OpenLiteracy, our mission is to change that, one student at a time. We offer a suite of products and services designed to meet students and educators where they are: a purchasable reading curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, Tier 2 intervention support for classroom educators, and high-impact, individualized Tier 3 tutoring. We don't just teach reading. We grow readers.
As our programs grow, we’re hiring a Curriculum Builder to help us expand our resources and keep their quality high as we work to make a difference in literacy outcomes across the country.
What you’ll do
- Build new Science-of-Reading-aligned lessons, practice activities, and student materials that align with our brand and existing content
- Support in building educator-facing materials and updating existing curriculum materials as we prepare for a large-scale product launch
- Complete QA (Quality Assurance) processes to review new and existing curriculum and supplemental materials for accuracy, scope and sequence alignment, formatting, and overall brand consistency
- Work with the Curriculum Team to turn feedback and student data into stronger, easy-to-use materials
Qualifications
Required
- A strong grounding in the Science of Reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
- Experience teaching, tutoring, and/or writing curriculum for K–6 readers
- A creative, design-focused mind and a sharp eye for detail to make sure materials are clear, consistent, and error-free
- Comfort working in the Google Workspace, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
- Able to commit to at least 10 hours per week, scheduled at your convenience
- U.S. work authorization, U.S. mailing address, and ability to receive U.S. bank deposits
Preferred
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle several projects at once
- Familiarity with UFLI Foundations or similar structured literacy programs
- Experience supporting English Learners, students with disabilities, and/or other diverse student groups
