Cybersecurity Instructor (Virtual)

CodeStream Studios delivers career-connected technology education programs that prepare middle school, high school, and young adult learners for college, industry certifications, and emerging technology careers. Our programs strengthen problem-solving, technical skills, creativity, and confidence through engaging coding and STEM education.

We're seeking Tech Education Instructors (Independent Contractors) with programming expertise and a passion for teaching to deliver instruction in Web Development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js), Python, Game Development, Java, Mobile App Development, and Cybersecurity.

Instructors guide students through coding activities, troubleshoot technical challenges, evaluate student progress, and facilitate interactive learning experiences using our proprietary CodeStream Online Studio (CSOS) platform.

Instructional Opportunities & Expectations

• Virtual Instruction: Deliver live, instructor-led classes remotely, provide student support, and facilitate scheduled virtual e-Lab and tutoring sessions. Instructors must have a reliable internet connection, appropriate equipment, and a professional teaching environment.

• In-Person Instruction: Provide on-site instruction at assigned schools or partner locations. Instructors must be available to travel to their designated teaching locations and support classroom activities during scheduled sessions.

• Flexible Scheduling: Opportunities are part-time and based on program needs, instructor availability, and assigned courses. Instructors may be considered for virtual, in-person, or both instructional formats.

As a Cybersecurity Instructor, you'll...

• Deliver virtual instruction using CodeStream Studios' cybersecurity curriculum, tools, and resources
• Interact with students in a professional manner, offering constructive, encouraging, and timely communication
• Act as a Student Experience Advocate, working to ensure a fun, enjoyable, and positive learning environment and successful outcomes for every student
• Plan and execute relevant supplemental educational activities that support the assigned curriculum and learning objectives
• Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning
• Encourage complex thinking, participation, and discussion
• Monitor, address, and report on student attendance and behavior
• Regularly assess, evaluate, and report on student progress
• Learn and develop your domain knowledge across our entire catalog
• Identify and communicate opportunities for product improvement
• Participate in planning and development meetings
• Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and other instructors

About You

You'll thrive as a Cybersecurity Instructor if you have:

• Dynamic, team-oriented skills to serve as a Cyber Security Instructor.
• Recent teaching experience in cybersecurity
• A way with words when communicating even challenging concepts, and your communication skills (in English) are top notch.
• Familiarity with current industry trends and best practices, and you’re comfortable using them to frame concepts to beginners
• Comfortability with communication and collaboration tools like: Google Docs, Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
• Expert-level knowledge and experience in the following competencies: server management, hardware, software, networking, mobility, virtualization, project management, and security
• Network+ CompTIA Security+ certified.; CCNA, CISSP SANS, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), are strongly desired
• Must be CompTIA CYSA+ certified or able to earn the certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Must have some teaching experience, preferably with adults in an online environment.
• Proficient in TCP/IP networking and networking protocols as well as Microsoft Windows operating systems including console/terminal usage
• Familiarity with Linux, Windows Server Environments, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Assessment is required
• Ability to teach in a highly interactive and hands-on style
• Flexibility to adapt to continuous changes in the curriculum (needed to stay current in the industry)

Managing Student Performance

• Provide students with ongoing feedback, conferencing, and performance appraisals. Recognize any challenges early and work with coaches and students to overcome them.
• Coordinate closely with students’ career coach and learner support staff on enforcing program rules and promoting student success.
• Prepare student evaluations individually.
• Participate in all required student progress meetings with other members of the team
• Monitor and enforce student class attendance

Curriculum

• Provide input on tech curriculum and any changes needed to keep content current and relevant
• Provide input on labs, Learning Management systems, and program policies
• Conduct real-time student data entry in Salesforce.com

*For this role specifically, we are targeting a pay range between $35 - $45 hourly, where the difference in pay rate is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.

You'll stand out as a candidate if you have:

• At least two years of professional experience in the tech industry in a security role
• Undergraduate degree/certification in Cybersecurity, and/or Education
• Professional experience in education as a Certified Teacher
• Professional experience in computer coding as a software engineer or developer
• Experience working in a startup or non-profit environment
• Experience working in a remote environment
