Job Description

Ambient Enterprises is seeking a D365 Solutions Architect to design solutions across Dynamics 365 Sales, Field Service, and Business Central, including the integrations between them. This person decides how these solutions get built and makes sure the development team builds them that way. This position reports to the Enterprise Solutions Architect and works closely with sales, service, and finance leaders.

The role is accountable for the following areas, working with the development team, Microsoft partners, and the business. You will be expected to do the following:

• Solution design: data models, security, and technical specifications for changes to Dynamics 365 and Dataverse.

• Integration architecture: every integration is documented and monitored.

• Sync reliability: catching deletions, gaps, and out-of-sync records before users notice them.

• Commission and credit split data: one system of record that sales and finance both trust.

• Acquisition onboarding: a repeatable way to bring acquired companies onto the shared platform.

• Standards and governance: architecture decision records, the architecture board, and how changes move from development to production.

The position sits in IT and follows IT's architecture, security, and change standards. Most of the week goes to design and review, but this person also does development work and is a reliable lead when the team needs help. This is a senior individual contributor role without direct reports.

The position is remote within the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Design

• Turn business requests into designs a developer can build without guessing, covering data model, security, and environment promotion.

• Write technical specifications for larger stories before build starts and review them with the developers who will help build them.

• Review designs and pull requests from developers and partners, and explain the feedback so people learn from it.

• Build plugins, flows, and integration code directly, and step in on development when the team is stretched or a problem needs senior hands.

Integration Architecture and Reliability

• Document every integration across Sales, Field Service, and Business Central with an owner, a current data-flow diagram, and a decision record for those that carry production risk.

• Design integrations for retries without duplicates, deletes, delta sync, and failed-message handling.

• Put monitoring in place for the integrations, with alerts that go to a named owner.

Business Partnership

• Work with department leaders to find out what they need before proposing a solution.

• Explain tradeoffs in cost and risk, and push back with reasons when a request costs more than it's worth.

Acquisition Onboarding

• When requested, assess an acquired company's systems against Ambient's architecture, including fit-gap and the system of record for each entity.

• Plan data migration, deduplication, and cutover, and turn the approach into a playbook the team can repeat.

Standards and Governance

• Bring architecture decision records to the architecture board and keep decisions on record.

• Keep the Architecture and Development Standards current as the platform changes, including how the team uses AI tools in the build.

• Help the team use AI development tools well, including where they speed up the build and where their output needs a closer look.

• Look for better ways to build, try them on a small scale, and bring the ones that work to the team.

• Set the release approach for Sales and Field Service solutions: solution layering, environments, and pipelines.

Required

• A track record of Dynamics 365 Sales, Field Service, or Business Central solutions you personally designed, with diagrams and decision records other people built from, and examples you can walk through in detail.

• At least one production system you supported long after go-live, including what broke and what you changed because of it.

• Deep Dataverse knowledge: data modeling, security roles, business rules, plugins, and Power Automate.

• Integration design experience across Dynamics 365 apps such as Field Service, and with Business Central or another ERP, including error handling, duplicate prevention, and monitoring.

• ALM experience: managed and unmanaged solutions, environment strategy, and source-controlled deployment pipelines.

• Working experience with Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, code review, and deployment pipelines.

• Hands-on development in C# plugins, JavaScript web resources, and Power Automate, strong enough to build and fix production code, not only review it.

• Working knowledge of AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code, with the judgment to review and correct what they produce.

• Clear communication with non-technical leaders, with examples of explaining a technical tradeoff to a business leader and changing a decision because of it.

• Examples of improvements you proposed and built that nobody asked for, and what happened.

Preferred

• Experience consolidating acquired companies onto a shared platform.

• Microsoft partner or consulting experience, combined with time owning a system in-house.

• Experience setting up architecture governance, such as decision records or a review board.

Estimated compensation: $150-170k/yr. with flexibility based on experience and skills.
