• Salary: Up to £100,000 + equity
• Location: Victoria, London. Four days in the office; Wednesdays working from home

I’m working with a funded AI startup building an intelligent assistant that handles calls, bookings, maintenance requests and operational admin for property managers.

The platform is already live with pilot customers managing over 14,000 units. With ambitious growth plans, they need a Data & AI Engineer to build the infrastructure that helps the product process information reliably and retrieve the right answers.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Engineering, AI engineers and backend developers, taking ownership of pipelines, databases and retrieval systems. You’ll have significant input into architecture, tooling and engineering standards as the company grows.

What They’re Looking For (Non-Negotiables)

• Education: A first-class degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a closely related technical subject from a UK top-30 university or international equivalent. This is a firm client requirement; a 2:1 or 2:2 does not meet the stated bar.
• Python: Strong, recent experience writing production code.
• Data engineering: Personally built and maintained live data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Databases: Strong SQL and relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL, plus experience with NoSQL databases.
• AI data systems: Practical experience with vector databases, embeddings and retrieval systems used in production.
• Ownership: Comfortable making technical decisions, solving problems independently and following work through into production.
• Office attendance: Able to work in Victoria four days every week.
• Right to work: Able to take this permanent position without employer sponsorship.

What You’ll Work On

• Building batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Designing how operational data is ingested, transformed and stored.
• Developing vector search and retrieval infrastructure for AI features.
• Improving data quality, reliability, security and performance.
• Supporting AI engineers with the data systems behind training and inference.
• Establishing architecture and engineering standards as the data capability grows.

Relevant Technologies

• Python, SQL and PostgreSQL
• NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
• Vector databases such as Qdrant, Milvus or pgvector
• Spark, Airflow and Kafka
• Elasticsearch / OpenSearch
• Pandas and Polars
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure

You don’t need every named tool, but you do need strong production engineering experience across the core requirements.

The Working Environment

This is an intensive, early-stage environment with ambitious delivery expectations. Priorities can change quickly, responsibilities are broad, and important releases or production issues can require flexibility beyond standard office hours.

They’re looking for someone who actively wants that level of involvement and is comfortable taking responsibility for outcomes. You’ll need to enjoy building, making decisions and getting things shipped.
