Safestore are searching for a Data Engineer, responsible for designing, building and maintaining databases and scalable ELT/ETL pipelines to support business reporting, analytics and decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a quickly modernising data stack supporting multiple branches of our business operations.
The postholder will develop and maintain data pipelines, integrate data from multiple sources, and support the continuous improvement of the organisation's data infrastructure. This role requires a proactive and analytical individual who enjoys solving complex problems, working collaboratively and driving best practice in data engineering and DataOps.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Design, build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data from multiple sources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data quality, data integration and performance issues.
  • Identify optimal data storage solutions for ingesting new data sources.
  • Ensure data solutions comply with organisational security, governance and compliance requirements.
  • Utilise version control and DataOps best practices, including source control, code reviews, testing and deployment automation.
  • Contribute to CI/CD processes to support efficient and reliable deployment of data solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation relating to data architecture, pipelines and processes.
  • Collaborate and pair-code with data engineers and data scientists.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a Data Engineering or related role.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Strong SQL development and database querying skills.
  • Experience designing, developing and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment.
  • Experience working with a cloud warehousing eg: BigQuery.
  • Understanding of data modelling principles and database design.
  • Experience with DataOps practices, including version control in GitHub.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
