About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Snowflake Data Engineer to join a high-impact project for our global enterprise customer (manufacturing industry). You will be a key contributor to scaling, optimizing, and evolving data pipeline framework that processes telemetry data (IoT) from manufacturing facilities. The framework is post-pilot and moving into full production - you will be taking ownership of a working solution and driving it to the next level of maturity, reliability and scale. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership: you will be expected to propose, agree and make architectural decisions, proactively identify improvement opportunities and shape the technical roadmap, not just execute on specifications. The ideal candidate combines deep Snowflake expertise with a cost-conscious mindset and a track record of building observable, maintainable data pipelines in Snowflake (and - optionally - Azure).

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement an automated onboarding process for new data sources (manufacturing plants), including external stage configuration, notification integrations and data ingestion setup - with automated validation tests to verify each new integration.
  • Review and optimize the existing pipeline for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Build cost tracking and chargeback tooling - enabling cost attribution per factory and per data source.
  • Implement a data observability and audit layer covering ingestion errors, processing latency, data volume anomalies and SLA breaches, with operational alerting.
  • Design and deliver new data products for the Data Science team, with appropriate access controls separating data across facilities.
  • Maintain and evolve the technical backlog - proactively proposing pipeline improvements, evaluating new Snowflake capabilities, and contributing to the platform roadmap alongside Product Owners and architects.

Must-have skills and experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake in production environments
  • Advanced proficiency with Snowflake data engineering (stages, Snowpipe, streams, tasks, stored procedures, dynamic tables).
  • Strong Snowflake SQL skills, including data ingestion (intelligent ingestion using COPY INTO) and working with semi-structured data formats (JSON, XML).
  • Practical experience with Snowflake performance tuning: Query Profile, clustering keys, materialized views and warehouse configuration.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake cost governance tooling: account usage views, Resource Monitors, Bugdets, tag-based cost management.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Azure integration patterns relevant to Snowflake.
  • Experience designing pipelines with reliability and automation in mind: metadata-driven pipelines, idempotency, error handling, reprocessing strategies, data freshness SLAs.
  • Hands-on experience with version control and CI/CD for data pipelines (Git and at least one of: Terraform, SchemaChange or equivalent IaC tooling for Snowflake objects).
  • Ability to critically evaluate, challenge and simplify existing solutions and architectures - not just extend them.

Nice-to-have skills and experience

  • Experience building operational dashboards with Streamlit in Snowflake.
  • Experience with Snowpark (Python) for custom transformation logic within Snowflake.
  • Exposure to Snowflake ML Functions or Cortex AI for data quality and observability use cases.
  • Background working with IoT, industrial telemetry or time-series data patterns.
  • Prior projects for manufacturing, regulated industries, or large global enterprises.
  • Familiarity with dbt as a transformation layer.
