Data Engineer
Role Description
The Data Engineer builds and maintains the pipelines that move data from Tripleseat's business applications and product databases into Snowflake, and shapes that data into trustworthy, well-modeled tables using dbt. This role is the foundation of Tripleseat's data platform: the pipelines and models you build power reporting, business intelligence, and product analytics across the company.
You'll spend most of your time writing Python and SQL to extract data from source systems (via Stitch and custom scripts) and transforming it in dbt. As you grow in the role, you'll have the opportunity to stretch into Snowflake/dbt infrastructure, semantic layer design, and hands-on business and product analytics.
Location
This position is open to remote candidates eligible to work in the United States.
Travel Expectations
If the ideal candidate is located outside the Concord, MA area, they will be required to complete initial onboarding at our Concord, MA office, followed by quarterly in-office visits.
Core Responsibilities:
Pipeline Engineering & Automation
-
Build and maintain data pipelines that move data from business applications and product databases into Snowflake, using Stitch, Dagster and Snowpipe for extraction and loading.
-
Write custom Python scripts to pull data from APIs and systems not covered by off-the-shelf connectors.
-
Transform raw data into clean, reliable models using dbt, following consistent modeling and testing conventions.
-
Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot failures, and resolve data quality issues as they arise.
-
Document data sources, pipeline logic, and dbt models so others can understand and extend them.
Data Modeling & Semantic Layer
-
Design dbt models that organize raw data into clear, well-tested staging, intermediate, and mart layers.
-
Contribute to semantic layer definitions—metrics, dimensions, and business logic—so teams across the company work from consistent, trusted numbers.
-
Partner with analytics, product, and business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into data models.
Infrastructure & Operations (Occasional)
-
Support Snowflake warehouse configuration, access controls, and cost/performance tuning as needed.
-
Contribute to dbt project structure, CI checks, and build optimization to keep the pipeline fast and maintainable.
Analytics (Occasional)
-
Dig into business and product data directly to answer ad hoc questions and surface insights for stakeholders.
-
Build or support dashboards and reports that help teams track key business and product metrics.
Skills & Experience
Required
-
2+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar data-focused technical role.
-
Proficiency in Python for building and maintaining data pipelines.
-
Strong SQL skills and comfort working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and their schemas.
-
Hands-on experience with Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse.
-
Experience with dbt (or a similar transformation tool) for data modeling.
-
Experience with ELT/ETL tools such as Stitch, Fivetran, or similar.
-
Comfortable working with Git for version control and collaborative development.
-
Experience with pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow).
-
Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate workflows.
-
Strong communicator with business and technical acumen who can partner effectively with engineering, product, and business teams.
Preferred
-
Familiarity with semantic layer or metrics-layer tooling, including experience with the Snowflake MCP server.
-
Experience building dashboards or conducting business/product analytics.
-
Familiarity with AWS or another cloud environment.
-
Experience integrating data from CRM or business systems (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.).
-
Background working in a fast-growing SaaS company or startup environment.
