Ibotta is looking for a software-focused Data Engineer to join our team and contribute to our mission to Make Every Purchase Rewarding. You will join our Publisher Data Platform (PDP) team to build the infrastructure, data marketplace, and standards that enable secure and easy data sharing with our publisher partners.
PDP delivers the scalable cloud infrastructure that powers compliant and effective use of data collected by the Ibotta Performance Network (IPN). Our team owns Ibotta's partner-facing data sharing platform (including Databricks Clean Rooms) as well as governance over data collected by the IPN. As a Data Engineer on PDP, you will develop the automated processes to provision dedicated publisher infrastructure and uphold the governance standards essential to handling IPN data.
This position is located in Denver, Colorado as a hybrid position requiring 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates must live in the United States.
Not based in Denver? We will offer a relocation bonus to help make your move to the Mile High City a smooth one.
What you will be doing:
Build and maintain the Terraform that provisions our data platform, primarily Databricks on AWS.
Implement robust engineered controls across our data platform to ensure compliance with data governance policies.
Develop and support secure external data exchange capabilities utilizing Databricks Clean Rooms, AWS Clean Rooms, Delta Sharing, and Remote File Shares.
Automate audit evidence collection and reporting to ensure seamless InfoSec, legal, and third-party compliance reviews.
Identify, design, and implement improvements to how the data platform runs, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and designing infrastructure for reliability and performance.
Perform incident resolution, manage workspace health monitoring, optimize cloud costs, and participate in an on-call rotation.
Use modern AI-assisted development thoughtfully while independently validating code, tests, system behavior, and correctness.
What we are looking for:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on data platform engineering, external data sharing integrations, or backend development.
Proficiency in Python and SQL, familiarity with distributed data processing patterns, and experience operating governed data environments. Experience with Medallion Architecture (bronze/silver/gold) or similar layered data design patterns, and experience building big data pipelines that support data transformation, metadata, dependency management, and workload orchestration.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to build and maintain effective partnerships and working relationships. Proven ability to deeply understand other teams' requirements and concerns, translate them into actionable technical requirements, and collaborate with the team on project prioritization.
Experience provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with Terraform and maintaining reusable deployment modules.
Hands-on experience with AWS and Databricks; practical experience with Databricks Asset Bundles (DABs) is highly preferred.
Understanding of tenant isolation, clean rooms, data privacy, and compliance requirements in a cloud context, with a passion for building secure-by-default systems.
