Data Engineer

We are working with a leading organisation seeking a Data Engineer to join its growing data team. This is a hands-on role focused on building, optimising and maintaining an Azure-based data platform that supports analytics and reporting across the business.

You'll play a key role in developing scalable data pipelines, enhancing data quality, and ensuring business users have access to reliable, high-quality datasets. This position would suit someone who enjoys execution-focused engineering work and wants to contribute directly to the evolution of a modern cloud data platform.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics
• Build and maintain robust data storage solutions within Azure Data Lake and Synapse
• Develop high-performance SQL transformations and data processing workflows
• Monitor platform performance and continuously improve reliability, scalability and efficiency
• Ensure data quality, integrity and consistency across the data landscape
• Work closely with analysts and business stakeholders to deliver trusted datasets for reporting and analytics
• Support data governance, security and compliance initiatives
• Identify opportunities to improve existing processes, data flows and platform capabilities

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, ideally within a Microsoft Azure environment
• Strong hands-on SQL development and optimisation skills
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
• Proven expertise with Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory
• Experience working with Azure Data Lake or similar cloud-based storage solutions
• Good understanding of data modelling, schema design and database concepts
• Experience handling large-scale datasets and developing scalable data solutions
• Strong analytical mindset with a practical, delivery-focused approach
• Able to challenge existing solutions and contribute ideas for continuous improvement
• Excellent stakeholder communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams
• Fluent English communication skills
• Dutch language skills are essential

• Experience with Python for data processing and automation
• Exposure to data governance and data quality frameworks
• Familiarity with cloud security and compliance best practices
• Experience operating within enterprise-scale data environment
