Quantitative Data Engineer - SQL, Python, Snowflake & Data Modelling

12-Month Contract Outside IR35| Fully Remote (UK) | January 2027 Start

We are working with a leading global investment organisation looking to appoint a Data Engineer to join its growing Technology & Innovation function.

This is an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, financial analytics and AI, supporting the development of innovative applications used by investment, portfolio management and business teams.

The organisation is investing significantly in its data capabilities, building a centralised data platform that brings together information from multiple internal and external sources.

We are looking for someone who enjoys not only working with data but also understanding the business challenges behind it.

The Opportunity

Working as part of an established Data Engineering team, you will help build and enhance data pipelines, develop data models and transform complex information into reliable, structured datasets.

You will work closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders, understanding their requirements and translating these into practical data solutions.

Projects include supporting AI-powered research applications, financial analytics platforms and portfolio management systems.

This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on SQL, data transformation, modelling and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance data pipelines using SQL, Python and modern data engineering tools.
  • Build and optimise data models to support financial analysis, investment reporting and AI applications.
  • Work with internal and external data sources, ensuring information is accurately extracted, cleaned, validated and transformed.
  • Use Snowflake, dbt and Apache Airflow to support data warehousing, transformation and orchestration.
  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand complex data requirements and translate these into technical solutions.
  • Develop transformation logic to address business challenges, including financial calculations, currencies and data consistency.
  • Take ownership of individual data workstreams within wider technology projects.
  • Collaborate with application developers and engineering teams to ensure data is available, accurate and fit for purpose.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, processes and existing solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, joins and window functions.
  • Practical Python experience.
  • Experience working with data pipelines, data transformation and data modelling.
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering technologies such as Snowflake, dbt or Apache Airflow.
  • Experience working with relational databases.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into structured data solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work directly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach, strong analytical thinking and the ability to take ownership of work independently.

We are particularly interested in individuals who are naturally curious, enjoy solving problems and are enthusiastic about developing their technical and commercial understanding.

Desirable Experience

  • Financial Services, Investment Management or Private Equity.
  • Azure or other cloud-based data engineering environments.
  • Working with financial datasets and complex business logic.
  • Data governance, data quality or sensitive financial information.
  • Supporting AI-driven applications or analytics platforms.
  • Consulting or business-facing data engineering experience.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Work with a highly innovative global investment business.
  • Exposure to AI, financial analytics and modern data technologies.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of meaningful projects.
  • Collaborate directly with business stakeholders and experienced engineers.
  • Join an established team with a strong pipeline of long-term work.
  • Fully remote working within the UK.
  • Initial 12-month contract with the potential for longer-term opportunities.
