Oliver Bernard have partnered with an established, forward-thinking business looking to hire an ambitious Intermediate Data Engineer to join its growing data team in Cape Town.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to go beyond maintaining existing pipelines and play a genuine role in shaping modern data infrastructure.

The opportunity:

🔹 Work across Python, AWS, Kubernetes and FastAPI.

🔹 Contribute to a major migration from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud.

🔹 Build and maintain data services using modern engineering practices.

🔹 Work with MS SQL, PostgreSQL and Snowflake.

🔹 Collaborate closely with the technical lead and influence architectural decisions.

🔹 Grow towards a Senior Data Engineer position, with opportunities to mentor junior engineers as the team expands.

What they're looking for:

✅ Strong Python development experience, particularly building services rather than just scripts.

✅ Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.

✅ Familiarity with Kubernetes and modern data technologies.

✅ Someone who takes ownership, challenges ideas constructively and enjoys solving problems independently.

📍 Location: Cape Town City Centre

🏢 Working model: Hybrid, 2 days in the office (Tuesday and Thursday)

💰 Salary: R50,000 - R80,000 per month, depending on experience
