Data Engineer (ETL / Power BI) Contract

Data Agility is a specialist analytics and information management firm delivering AI and analytics solutions alongside data governance, quality, migration, integration, reporting, and the strategies that bring these capabilities together. We are seeking an experienced ETL and Power BI Developer for a contract engagement with one of our public sector clients. The engagement commences in November 2026 and is expected to conclude in April 2027. This is a hybrid role based in Melbourne.

About the engagement

The client is preparing to decommission a legacy data and reporting platform. The successful candidate will work with the relevant stakeholders to identify and assess the data products that depend on this platform. Each product will be assessed to determine whether it should be decommissioned or transitioned to an existing platform.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Documenting business requirements, data sources, data flows, transformations and dependencies
• Designing, developing, testing and implementing the transitioned products
• Producing design specifications, handover documentation and knowledge transfer to support teams

Essential requirements

Applications will only be considered from candidates who meet all three of the following:

1. A minimum of 3 years’ experience developing ETL processes
2. A minimum of 3 years’ experience designing and implementing Microsoft Power BI solutions
3. Demonstrated experience scripting in DAX

Desirable experience

• Microsoft Azure data products, including Azure SQL, Data Factory and Key Vault
• SSIS and T-SQL, including stored procedures, views, indexes and query performance tuning
• Analysing large data volumes and developing data flow models and mappings
• Implementing database structures, data marts, data stores and data lakes
• Automated unit testing and Azure DevOps release pipelines
• Engaging with business stakeholders, users, technical staff and product owners to achieve agreed outcomes
