# Data Platform Engineer

## About the Role

BKW is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to help shape its central Data Hub by developing robust data solutions and connecting internal and external data sources. The role creates a reliable foundation that enables business functions to access and use data and information efficiently and as independently as possible.

You will design, develop, and operate scalable data pipelines and data solutions in collaboration with AI/Data Scientists and Platform Engineers. The role combines hands-on data engineering with data modeling, transformation, quality management, monitoring, testing, documentation, API development, and support for Kafka-based streaming solutions.

## Key Responsibilities

* Design, develop, and operate robust, scalable data pipelines and data solutions.

* Collaborate with AI/Data Scientists and Platform Engineers on data and platform solutions.

* Help shape and develop the central Data Hub.

* Integrate internal and external data sources for different business and technical use cases.

* Model and transform data to ensure it is reliable, consistent, and suitable for different applications.

* Make data and data products easily accessible for business functions and support self-service data usage.

* Take responsibility for data quality, monitoring, testing, and clear documentation throughout the data value chain.

* Develop digital solutions in collaboration with business functions, AI/Data Scientists, and Platform Engineers.

* Develop and use interfaces and APIs.

* Support Kafka-based streaming solutions.

* Translate business requirements into sustainable technical solutions using a product-oriented approach.

* Contribute hands-on to the implementation of the solutions developed.

* Work across organizational boundaries using agile methods.

## Required Qualifications

* Several years of practical experience in Data Engineering.

* Good understanding of modern data and platform architectures.

* Strong working knowledge of Python and SQL.

* Solid experience with ETL/ELT and data pipelines.

* Experience developing and using interfaces and APIs.

* Experience translating business requirements into sustainable technical solutions.

* Practical experience working with interdisciplinary and cross-organizational teams.

* Experience with agile working methods.

* Good German and English language skills.

* Willingness to develop a comprehensive understanding of the electricity and distribution network industry.

## Preferred Qualifications

* Knowledge of multiple technologies from the BKW data environment, including Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Git, and CI/CD.

* Experience supporting Kafka-based streaming solutions.

* Experience with modern data platform architecture.

* Experience working in the energy or electricity distribution sector.
