What You Can Expect The Data Engineer - Snowflake Administrator, is responsible for the secure, reliable, and well-governed administration of the Snowflake platform and related data-platform services. This is an individual-contributor role focused on platform setup, access administration, security configuration, metadata and governance implementation, operational support, and documentation. The role requires strong SQL and expert-level Python capability, sound GitHub practices, and practical experience administering Snowflake environments with discipline and thoroughness. The Snowflake Administrator partners closely with data engineering, security, privacy, and audit stakeholders to maintain compliant platform operations, support governance processes, and ensure appropriate controls are designed, documented, and executed. How You'll Create Impact Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Administer Snowflake environments, including creation and maintenance of accounts, databases, schemas, warehouses, roles, users, and access structures in alignment with approved security and governance standards. Grant, review, and revoke user and role-based access with strong attention to detail, segregation-of-duties considerations, and documented approval processes. Design, implement, and maintain Snowflake security capabilities including role-based access control, row-level security, masking policies, tagging, metadata structures, and other governance-related platform features. Establish and support data-governance controls within Snowflake, including classification-related tagging, object ownership standards, metadata setup, policy alignment, and traceable administrative practices. Use SQL and Python to automate administrative tasks, improve controls, support operational reporting, validate configurations, and strengthen platform reliability. Leverage GitHub and infrastructure-as-code practices, including Pulumi, to manage environment configuration, repeatable deployments, change control, and operational transparency. Support platform-adjacent services and servers used by orchestration tools such as Dagster, including ongoing environment support, issue investigation, coordination, and operational continuity. Partner with data engineering teams on Snowflake operational needs, platform standards, dbt-related enablement, and environment readiness for data-pipeline delivery. Prepare and maintain high-quality technical, administrative, and PMO documentation, including access procedures, role models, environment standards, runbooks, status tracking, action logs, and operational records. Support governance, audit, security, and privacy processes by producing required evidence, maintaining control-related documentation, participating in reviews, and coordinating with security and privacy teams during internal and external audits. Monitor platform health, investigate incidents, troubleshoot access and configuration issues, and drive timely resolution with appropriate communication and escalation. Recommend and implement improvements to platform administration, governance posture, operational processes, and control effectiveness. What Makes You Stand Out Technologies Required for this role: Snowflake administration, security configuration, and governance features. Expert Python skills for scripting, automation, validation, and operational tooling. Advanced SQL skills for platform administration, troubleshooting, and control validation. OAuth setup and migration from key-pair authentication to OAuth-based connection models. GitHub and Git-based change management practices. Pulumi for infrastructure-as-code and environment provisioning/change management. Administration or support of orchestration platforms such as Dagster. Experience supporting integrations with Power BI, Openflow, and other third-party enterprise tools. Alteryx administration experience is preferred. dbt experience is preferred. Expected Areas of Competence: Strong knowledge of Snowflake administration, including roles, users, grants, databases, schemas, warehouses, and secure platform configuration. Strong understanding of Snowflake governance and security capabilities, including row-level security, masking policies, tagging, metadata setup, and controlled access design. Experience establishing secure authentication and connection patterns, including OAuth setup, key-pair-to-OAuth migration activities, and support for approved external tool connectivity. Demonstrated thoroughness and accuracy in access provisioning, role design, security setup, and administrative change execution. Ability to work effectively with security, privacy, audit, PMO, and technical teams in a regulated or control-focused environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document processes clearly and explain technical controls to non-technical stakeholders. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills, with an ability to manage recurring operational work and governance-related deliverables in parallel. Ability to identify risks, maintain documentation discipline, and ensure evidence is available to support audits and control reviews. Ability to support operational platforms with urgency, reliability, and disciplined incident handling. Your Background Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Information Security, or a related technical field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. 5+ years of relevant experience in data-platform administration, database administration, cloud data engineering, or closely related technical roles required. Hands-on experience administering Snowflake environments, including access management, role design, security controls, and governance-related setup required. Strong experience with Python and SQL in support of platform administration, automation, and operational controls required. Experience with GitHub, change-control practices, and infrastructure-as-code approaches such as Pulumi required. Experience supporting orchestration-platform environments such as Dagster required or strongly preferred. Experience supporting audits, governance processes, documentation, and collaboration with security and privacy teams preferred. Experience with dbt and broader modern data-platform ecosystems is a plus. Experience with Power BI, Openflow, dbt, and broader modern data-platform ecosystems is a plus.
