Data Governance Lead – Permanent $180,000 including super
Melbourne CBD | Hybrid Working
Data governance is no longer about policies sitting on a shelf. The organisations getting the greatest value from their data are the ones that have clear ownership, trusted information, strong stakeholder engagement and a culture where data is genuinely used to support decisions.
We are partnering with a purpose-led organisation that has made significant investment in its data environment and is now looking for a Data Governance Lead to take ownership of how data is governed, understood and adopted across the business. This is an opportunity to build capability, influence senior stakeholders and create a governance framework that people use.
The Opportunity
This is a highly visible leadership role sitting between the business and the broader data function. You will be the person who brings structure, accountability and clarity to data management while ensuring governance enables the organisation rather than slowing it down. You will partner with executives, business leaders and data professionals to embed best practice, drive data quality outcomes and establish a culture where data is treated as a strategic asset.
Along the way, you will help shape data ownership, improve data literacy, champion stewardship and ensure stakeholders have confidence in the information they rely on every day.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and mature enterprise-wide data governance practices
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple business functions
- Develop frameworks that improve data quality, consistency and trust
- Drive data ownership and stewardship across the organisation
- Lead conversations around metadata, business definitions and information standards
- Promote data literacy and help teams become more self-sufficient with data
- Influence prioritisation of data initiatives and business demand
- Provide leadership and guidance to a small specialist team
- Act as the key voice between the business and data teams
We are interested in speaking with individuals who have:
- Demonstrated experience leading or implementing data governance initiatives in complex environments
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and build consensus across diverse teams
- Strong knowledge of data quality, metadata, stewardship and governance principles
- Experience introducing practical governance frameworks that balance control with business outcomes
- A track record of improving data adoption and driving organisational change
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language
- Previous leadership experience or the desire to mentor and develop others
Why This Role?
This is not a role focused solely on compliance or documentation.
It is an opportunity to shape how an organisation thinks about data, influence decision-making at senior levels and leave a lasting impact on the way information is managed and trusted across the business.
You will join a collaborative environment where data is recognised as a strategic priority, work closely with engaged stakeholders and have the support to drive meaningful change.
To be considered for this role, you must be an Australian Permanent Resident or an Australian Citizen
