Role Title: SAVP – Data Management Engagement Lead (Energy & Utilities / Travel & Transport)

BU/Segment: Data Management / Energy & Utilities, Travel & Transport

Location: London, United Kingdom (Flexible hybrid working, with time on client site as required)

Reports to: VP2 – Data Management Leader (IMU / SGU Interlock Lead)

Employment Type: Permanent

Summary of the role:

The SAVP – Data Management Engagement Lead is a client-facing delivery leadership role that combines leading the delivery of Data Management engagements with helping to establish EXL's Data Management presence in the Energy & Utilities and Travel & Transport sectors – a new growth area for the practice. Working under the direction of the Interlock Lead, this role leads assigned engagements or major workstreams from initiation through completion, manages engagement commercials with oversight from the Interlock Lead, and contributes sector knowledge, delivery credibility and reusable assets to the practice's entry into these markets.

This is a role for an experienced practitioner with genuine domain understanding of utilities, energy, or transport organisations, who can lead delivery teams on client site, build strong working relationships with client delivery stakeholders, and help shape the propositions and proof points the practice needs to win and grow in a sector where it is building its footprint. The role carries delivery and engagement-level financial responsibility on assigned engagements; commercial ownership, account strategy and sector P&L sit with the Interlock Lead.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:

50% Engagement Delivery Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of assigned Data Management engagements or major workstreams from initiation through completion, on client site as required, in alignment with business requirements, project objectives, contracted deliverables and EXL methodologies.

  • Manage the day-to-day engagement financials – budget tracking, invoicing inputs, provisions and forecasts – working with the Finance team monthly and with oversight and escalation to the Interlock Lead.

  • Act as the senior EXL point of contact on the ground for assigned engagements, providing the first point of escalation for client delivery stakeholders.

  • Assemble and manage the resources required to fulfil planned delivery to customer expectations, working with delivery enablement, resource management, and technical and competency leads.

  • Manage project change requests and corrective actions on assigned engagements, raising commercial changes and material risks to the Interlock Lead for decision.

  • Track and report engagement metrics that evidence delivery progress, quality and business value.

  • Provide consistent, accurate and timely status reporting to project sponsors, stakeholders and the Interlock Lead, covering progress, risks, issues and action plans.

25% Sector & Proposition Development (under the direction of the Interlock Lead)

  • Contribute sector knowledge and delivery insight to the development of Data Management propositions and go-to-market assets for the Energy & Utilities and Travel & Transport sectors, in line with priorities set by the Interlock Lead.

  • Help build the practice's initial credentials in these sectors: case studies, proof points, demos and client-evidenced examples drawn from engagement delivery.

  • Support the qualification of new opportunities in the sector and contribute delivery and domain input to proposals, RFI/RFP responses and statements of work led by Sales and the Interlock Lead.

  • Participate in the practice's interlock activities with IMU and SGU stakeholders relevant to the sector, including capability sessions and internal enablement.

  • Monitor sector trends, regulatory drivers and client challenges in utilities, energy and transport, and share this insight with the practice to inform proposition development.

15% Client Relationship & Growth Support

  • Build strong, trusted working relationships with client delivery and programme stakeholders on assigned engagements, ensuring clear and effective communication between all parties.

  • Identify potential opportunities for extension or expansion within assigned engagements and flag these to the Interlock Lead and account leadership for qualification.

  • Support the preparation and delivery of periodic delivery reviews within assigned accounts, evidencing the business value delivered through the engagement.

  • Monitor client satisfaction on assigned engagements, proactively addressing delivery issues or concerns and escalating where appropriate.

5% Team Support & Development

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching and support to engagement team members.

  • Provide feedback on engagement team performance to people managers and competency leads.

  • Assist with interviewing candidates for consulting and contract roles as required.

5% Other duties as assigned or identified

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business or IT, or 10+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • 7+ years of professional experience with Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse implementations and enterprise data management.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Energy & Utilities and/or Travel & Transport organisations (e.g., energy retail and networks, water, rail, aviation, logistics), in either a consulting services environment or directly.

  • Experience leading project or development teams in the implementation of complex data systems.

  • Experience managing project teams of 5–10 people, including multi-shore teams.

  • Exposure to pre-sales, proposals or proposition development in a consulting services organisation.

  • Knowledge of sector-specific data landscapes and regulatory context (e.g., utilities market data flows, asset data standards, transport operations data).

Skills and Personal attributes we would like to have:

  • Experience creating and managing project plans, including estimation, task identification, resource planning and risk mitigation.

  • Ability to build trust and credibility with client delivery and programme stakeholders.

  • Ability to present confidently to senior managers and groups.

  • Genuine curiosity about the Energy & Utilities and Travel & Transport sectors and enthusiasm for helping to build a new practice area.

  • Excels in a fast-paced, agile environment where critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills are required for success.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpolate from abstract material.

  • Ability to partner across the organisation to coordinate resources and solve issues.

  • Understanding of, and ability to apply, Business Analysis and Requirements Gathering to projects.
