Slate Systems Lab Group is building environmental-intelligence infrastructure that turns satellite, geospatial, weather, climate, agronomic and other data into decision-ready intelligence for institutional users.
Our first application, Farmslate, helps financial institutions assess agricultural risk and make better-informed financing decisions.
As we expand our data ecosystem, we are looking for a Data Partnerships & Governance Lead to help us build the systems, documentation and partnerships that allow Slate to acquire, use, share and manage data responsibly and compliantly.
What you'll do
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of data partnerships, compliance, governance and operations.
You will:
Data Partnerships
- Identify and support partnerships with data providers, institutions, aggregators, financial institutions, government agencies and other strategic data sources.
- You will be responsible for partner discovery, identify organizations whose technology or datasets can improve Farmslate's products
- Arrange and run evaluation and due diligence, discovery calls, requirement gathering and integration planning
- Coordinate the process of onboarding new data partners.
- Define what data is required, why it is required, how it will be used and what permissions are necessary.
- Support negotiation and documentation of data-sharing and data-access arrangements.
- Maintain a structured database of Slate's data partners, datasets, permissions, restrictions and obligations.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Develop and maintain Slate's data partnership and data governance framework.
- Ensure that data acquisition and usage processes are aligned with applicable data protection, privacy and sector-specific requirements.
- Support the development and maintenance of Data Processing Agreements, Data Sharing Agreements, Data Use Agreements, NDAs, consent documentation and related data partnership documents.
- Establish clear procedures for data access, storage, sharing, retention, deletion and permitted use.
- Maintain records of consent, data provenance, processing purposes and contractual restrictions.
- Work closely with legal/compliance advisers where specialist legal interpretation is required.
Internal Data Operations
- Create standard operating procedures for onboarding and managing data partnerships.
- Build a repeatable due-diligence process for new data sources.
- Create data inventories and documentation showing where data comes from and how it flows through Slate's products.
- Work with the technical and research teams to ensure data received from partners can be used according to contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Help establish clear ownership and accountability for data across the organisation.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who understands that data partnerships are not simply about getting access to data; they are about establishing the legal, ethical, operational and technical basis for using that data responsibly.
You should have experience in one or more of:
- Data governance
- Data protection/privacy
- Data partnerships
- Information governance
- Data compliance
- Legal operations relating to data
- Data management
- Partnership operations
- Regulatory/compliance operations
Experience working with data-sharing agreements, data processing agreements, consent frameworks or similar documentation is strongly preferred.
You should be:
- Highly organised and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable working with contracts and formal documentation.
- Able to translate regulatory/compliance requirements into practical operating processes.
- Comfortable working across technical, commercial and legal teams.
- Able to independently manage documentation and follow-through.
- Comfortable operating in an early-stage company where processes are still being built.
- Strong in written communication and stakeholder management.
Engagement
Contract / Part-Time initially
This role is initially structured as a contract, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a longer-term role as Farmslate's data partnership ecosystem grows.
Location: Nigeria preferred; hybrid/remote-friendly.
