We are looking for a Data Science Manager (based in Lisbon or Maia) to lead Universo’s Data Science team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, well-governed models that support business decision-making and deliver measurable impact.

You will be responsible for:

• Lead and develop the Data Science team, fostering professional growth, collaboration and technical excellence

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of solutions, from problem definition and validation through to integration into business processes, adoption and continuous improvement

• Ensure the quality, monitoring and documentation of models in production, including performance tracking, model drift and auditability. Define approval criteria, alerts and response plans for performance degradation or failures

• Manage stakeholders, translating their needs into clear and prioritised use cases

• Communicate results, limitations, risks and recommendations clearly to senior management, supporting informed decision-making

• Ensure that models comply with regulatory and personal data protection requirements

If you have:

• 5+ years of experience in Data Science, including 2+ years in a team leadership role

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience applying Machine Learning techniques to time-series data, as well as MLOps practices. Ability to evaluate solutions, review code and guide technical decisions

• Proven experience in the development and operationalisation of ML models, from problem definition and validation through to integration into business processes and monitoring in production

• Experience with cloud platforms, data pipelines and the integration of AI/ML solutions into business systems and processes

• Ability to communicate results, limitations and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management

• Fluency in English

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with Databricks, including pipeline development and model operationalisation.

• Experience with risk models, such as scoring, default prediction or fraud detection.

• Experience applying Machine Learning techniques to complex business problems, from data exploration through to impact assessment.
