POSITION SUMMARY

Peoplease is seeking a solution-focused Data Scientist to support the CFO's function with data-driven analysis, modeling, and tooling. This role is dedicated to understanding the business questions finance leadership is trying to answer, sourcing and validating the underlying data, and building examples and models that iterate quickly toward a usable answer.

The ideal candidate has a solid grasp of data structures and capabilities, is comfortable working across multiple source systems, and brings a pragmatic, solution-focused mindset. This individual will build and maintain data pipelines and models to support recurring analysis, validate and reconcile data across systems, and create visualizations and dashboards that make findings usable for decision-making. Strong documentation habits are essential. This role ensures methodology and assumptions are recorded so work is repeatable and auditable.

Over time, this role will prototype tools and processes that can scale beyond the CFO's function to support the broader organization.

Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Understands the business questions the CFO's function is trying to answer and translate them into a clear analytical approach.
  • Source relevant data, build working examples, and iterate quickly based on feedback.
  • Apply a solid grasp of data structures and capabilities to identify the most efficient path to an answer.
  • Maintain a solution-focused mindset, balancing rigor with speed and practicality.

Data Pipelines & Modeling

  • Build and maintain data pipelines and models to support recurring analysis and reporting needs.
  • Validate and reconcile data pulled from multiple source systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues, gaps, or discrepancies across systems.

Visualization & Communication

  • Create visualizations and dashboards that make findings clear and usable for decision-making.
  • Present analysis and recommendations to the CFO and other stakeholders in an accessible way.
  • Document methodology and assumptions thoroughly so work is repeatable and auditable.

Tooling & Scalability

  • Prototype tools and processes that can eventually be scaled to support the broader organization.
  • Recommend improvements to data infrastructure, systems, and workflows that support analytical work.
  • Stay current on data science tools and practices, applying them where they add practical value.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, data analysis, or a related quantitative role.
  • Strong proficiency in a data analysis language such as Python or R, and in SQL alongside ability to leverage AI tools.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and models.
  • Experience validating and reconciling data across multiple source systems.
  • Proficiency with visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Strong documentation habits, with the ability to make methodology and assumptions clear to others.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting finance, risk, or operations functions a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to function as a remote employee in a distributed work team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a remote-first role with occasional travel for meetings, training, or industry events.
  • Regular virtual collaboration across distributed teams.
  • Frequent computer-based tasks, including data analysis and report generation.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required.
