HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About this Opportunity:

This role sits within the Chief Security Office where it's our job to ensure we keep our customers, colleagues, and assets safe from threat. A key driver of this is data and AI, as such the Security Data & AI lab plays a critical role. We have a brilliant opportunity for a data scientist to join our team.

In this role, you'll help in transforming how we detect, mitigate, and prevent threats using advanced machine learning and agentic in one of the UK's most data-rich environments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborating with data engineers, DevOps engineers, and domain experts to deliver solutions across many branches of security.
  • Working with our internal customers and stakeholders to convert business problems into data science solutions.
  • Integrating solutions into the existing systems and processes through MLOps and model explainability, in order to ensure model insights are actionable.
  • Growing domain knowledge in Security, one of the most important fields of the future.
  • Building and maintaining both traditional machine learning and agentic systems.
  • Contributing to the growth of data science understanding with demonstrations and show & tells to audiences of varying prior knowledge levels.
  • Participating in team ceremonies to better understand the work through planning, commit to clear achievable goals, drive appropriate prioritisation, escalate impediments accordingly and manage external dependencies effectively.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience delivering data science or analytics projects from problem definition through to implementation, with the ability to articulate measurable business impact.
  • Solid understanding of machine learning and the underlying statistics. Much of our work is with unsupervised ML models so we must draw on knowledge of fundamentals to make design decisions.
  • Knowledge of foundational model systems and frameworks / best practices for building agents.
  • Experience using Python and common data science libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy and visualisation frameworks.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying and transforming large datasets, ideally using platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar 'big data' warehouses.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud platforms and infrastructure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to turning business challenges into data-driven solutions.
  • Curious and innovation-focused, driven to stay current with industry developments.
