Ensemble Performing Arts is seeking a technically curious and detail-oriented Data Systems & ETL Engineer I to support reliable extraction, transformation, validation, and reporting across our legacy, acquired, and strategic business systems. The role is centered on strong SQL, data investigation, migration preparation, reconciliation, operational reporting, and practical automation using Python or comparable tools.

Working with our Software Systems Engineer and business subject-matter experts, the Engineer I will independently execute defined technical workstreams after onboarding, document findings and exceptions, and deliver work that is ready for targeted review. Responsibility will expand as the employee develops familiarity with Ensemble's systems, data, and business rules. The work focuses on transactional and operational systems rather than large-scale cloud data platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Discovery & Extraction

  • Write, test, and maintain SQL queries for customers, accounts receivable, rentals, products, inventory, payments, and other operational domains
  • Investigate unfamiliar or poorly documented relational databases with guidance from technical and business subject-matter experts
  • Profile source data for completeness, duplication, referential integrity, unusual record states, and migration risk
  • Document extraction criteria, joins, filters, assumptions, control totals, audit fields, and known limitations

Reporting & Cross-System Analysis

  • Develop and maintain operational reports, extracts, exception reports, and cross-system comparisons using SQL, Excel, Power Query, or approved reporting tools
  • Assist with NetSuite and Shopify saved searches, exports, and data investigations under established platform standards
  • Trace discrepancies across source systems, transformations, import files, and target records to help identify root cause

Migration Preparation & Reconciliation

  • Execute assigned data-conversion workstreams using approved requirements, source-to-target mappings, and acceptance criteria
  • Develop and maintain mappings, normalization rules, exception categories, and deduplication logic with technical and business review
  • Prepare import-ready outputs and reconcile record counts, quantities, balances, totals, duplicates, exclusions, and transformation results before handoff
  • Create evidence packages and support post-import verification, corrections, and documented rerun procedures

Scripting, ETL Automation & Quality

  • Develop Python, PowerShell, or comparable utilities for file ingestion, transformation, validation, reconciliation, exception reporting, and export generation
  • Convert selected recurring SQL and Excel processes into version-controlled, tested, and maintainable scripts or scheduled workflows
  • Apply appropriate logging, configuration management, error handling, restartability, and safe-recovery practices to owned workflows
  • Maintain queries, scripts, mappings, runbooks, and recovery procedures; participate in review and cross-training
  • Support implementation testing, cutover activities, and issue investigation for assigned workstreams

WHO YOU ARE

  • A systems investigator - you enjoy exploring unfamiliar databases, asking good questions, and separating what the data shows from what still requires business clarification
  • A careful migrator - you validate before handoff and can demonstrate that counts, quantities, and balances reconcile
  • A practical builder - you turn appropriate one-time SQL and Excel processes into tested, version-controlled automation
  • A reliable technical contributor - you can complete a defined assignment, document your work, incorporate review, and communicate clearly when data or business rules are ambiguous

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or more years of relevant experience in database development, data migration, reporting, ETL, application data support, or a closely related field; equivalent demonstrated capability will be considered
  • Strong relational SQL, including joins, CTEs, aggregations, data-quality checks, and reconciliation logic; familiarity with window functions and query-performance basics
  • Working proficiency in Python, PowerShell, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or another language suitable for repeatable data processing
  • Experience transforming, validating, and documenting structured data using record counts, control totals, exception reporting, and traceable source-to-output logic
  • Familiarity with version control, testing, logging, error handling, and maintainable technical documentation
  • Experience with ERP, accounting, inventory, rental, retail, or other transactional data; NetSuite, Shopify, FileMaker, or Microsoft SQL Server experience is a plus
  • Ability to investigate technical problems, communicate findings and uncertainty, incorporate review, and manage defined assignments in a fully remote environment

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience. A competitive benefits package is provided, including a 401(k) with employer match; health, vision, and dental benefits; and Paid Time-Off.

TO APPLY

Please submit the following:

  • A resume
  • A brief cover letter outlining your interest in this role
  • Responses to our short questionnaire about your background. Applications without a cover letter and questionnaire response will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.

Diversity is a strength of our community. If you meet most but not all of the qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.
