🩺 We're Hiring: Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Deputy CMO) – Dr.Online UK

📍 Fully Remote | UK-Based | 40 Hours per Week | Consultancy

Dr.Online UK is a growing, CQC-registered digital healthcare provider delivering accessible, high-quality private GP services across the UK.

We're looking for an experienced, motivated GP to join our clinical leadership team as Deputy Chief Medical Officer, combining remote clinical practice with clinical governance, operational oversight and service development.

This is an exciting opportunity for a GP looking to progress into a senior clinical leadership role while remaining actively involved in patient care and helping shape the future of digital healthcare.

The Role

Working closely with our Chief Medical Officer, you'll help maintain high clinical standards, support our clinicians and contribute to the ongoing development of Dr.Online.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering remote GP consultations via video and telephone.
  • Deputising for the CMO during periods of leave or absence.
  • Supporting clinical governance, incident reviews, complaints, safeguarding and prescribing oversight.
  • Leading and contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, policies and protocols.
  • Providing clinical leadership and supporting colleagues with complex cases and operational queries.
  • Helping develop safe, effective digital clinical pathways.
  • Coordinating and providing additional clinical cover during periods of clinician leave.

Working Hours & Flexibility

The role involves a 40-hour weekly commitment, combining clinical consultations, governance, administration and leadership responsibilities.

Regular core clinical sessions (17 hours per week):

  • Monday: 1pm–6pm (5 hours)
  • Friday: 5pm–10pm (5 hours)
  • Saturday: 1pm–5pm (4 hours)
  • Sunday: 7am–8am and 12pm–2pm (3 hours)

These represent the regular clinical sessions expected of the successful candidate.

The remaining 23 hours per week will be allocated flexibly between additional clinical cover, governance, administration and leadership responsibilities, according to service needs.

Flexibility to provide additional clinical cover during colleague holidays, sickness or other periods of absence is essential.

Outside the fixed clinical sessions, working hours can be arranged flexibly, with the precise balance of responsibilities agreed with the successful candidate.

What We're Looking For

  • GMC-registered GP with a current UK licence to practise and appropriate professional registration.
  • Experience delivering remote or digital primary care.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, safeguarding and prescribing standards.
  • Excellent clinical judgement, communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach to clinical leadership.
  • Flexibility to provide additional clinical cover, including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Previous clinical leadership, governance or management experience desirable.

What We Offer

  • £79,200–£98,400 annual consultancy package (TBC), paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
  • Medical indemnity provided for all Dr.Online work.
  • Fully remote working from within the UK.
  • Regular, published clinical rota, providing predictable core sessions.
  • Flexible working hours for governance, administration and leadership responsibilities.
  • Flexible paid time off incorporated within the consultancy package, subject to agreement.
  • A varied role combining clinical practice, governance and leadership.
  • Genuine influence over clinical standards, service development and operational decisions.
  • Opportunities for further progression within the senior clinical leadership team as Dr.Online grows.

Remuneration within the proposed range will reflect the successful candidate's experience, clinical governance expertise, leadership responsibilities and flexibility to support wider service requirements. The final package and scope of responsibilities will be agreed through discussion.

Contract Terms

  • Engagement: Self-employed consultancy arrangement.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week across clinical, governance and leadership responsibilities, with flexible scheduling outside core clinical sessions.
  • Initial term: 12 months, with the intention of developing a long-term working relationship.
  • Payment: Monthly against invoice.
  • Time off: Flexible paid time off incorporated within the consultancy package (TBC).
  • Indemnity: Provided by Dr.Online for work undertaken within the service.
  • Not included: Pension, statutory sick pay or equipment.

Why Join Dr.Online?

This is more than a remote GP position. It's an opportunity to become part of the clinical leadership of a growing digital healthcare organisation.

You'll combine direct patient care with meaningful responsibility for clinical governance, quality improvement and service development, working alongside an experienced leadership team.

We value clinicians who are proactive, commercially aware and passionate about delivering safe, accessible and innovative healthcare.

If you're looking for a role where your clinical expertise and leadership can make a genuine impact, we'd love to hear from you.
