ABOUT GAL AEROSPACE
GAL Aerospace Corp. is a Canadian aerospace company headquartered in the Montreal area, in the province of Quebec, with operations in the United States and an international presence that includes Mexico.
With over 20 years of experience in the aerospace industry, GAL Aerospace specializes in the design, engineering, manufacturing, and certification of aircraft cabin interiors. We work with commercial airlines, aircraft manufacturers (OEMs), maintenance organizations (MROs), and aircraft leasing companies to develop practical solutions for aircraft interior products and modifications.
Through our specialized companies, including GAL Aviation, AeroQuest, and GAL AeroStaff, we bring together engineering expertise, manufacturing capabilities, certification support, and aerospace staffing services.
From initial concept and design to testing, certification, and production implementation, our teams work together to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and certifiable aircraft interior solutions.
THE ROLE
GAL Aerospace is looking for a Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team.
We are looking for engineers who can think beyond CAD.
Position Overview: Develops aircraft interior products and modifications from concept through certification and production implementation.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this independent professional role involves identifying engineering requirements, establishing compliance strategies, assessing technical and program risks, and developing practical, certifiable, and manufacturable solutions.
The position focuses on commercial aircraft interior products and modifications, including overhead stowage bins, cabin monuments, structures, mechanisms, and related systems.
Beyond creating models and drawings, you will take ownership of defined engineering work packages, applying sound engineering judgment throughout the product development lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Requirements & Concept Development
- Analyze customer, regulatory, operational, and manufacturing requirements.
- Define engineering requirements and acceptance criteria, evaluate design alternatives, and conduct trade studies.
- Identify and assess technical, certification, manufacturing, schedule, and program risks.
Design & Compliance
- Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, installation data, mechanisms, modification instructions, and technical documentation.
- Define and support methods of compliance through engineering analysis, testing, similarity, inspection, and technical assessment.
- Collaborate with certification, structures, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and operations teams to ensure technically sound and practical solutions.
Engineering Substantiation & Product Support
- Apply engineering fundamentals, including statics, mechanics of materials, load paths, material selection, and design for manufacturability.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, test plans, and test reports to support design validation and certification activities.
- Support manufacturing, production implementation, aircraft installation, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
- Take ownership of assigned engineering work packages from initial requirements through design release and implementation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum three years of relevant engineering experience or demonstrated equivalent capability.
- Ability to independently manage and deliver defined aircraft modification or engineering work packages.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, engineering fundamentals, and practical problem-solving.
- Knowledge of aircraft certification principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Proficiency with professional 3D CAD tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks, evaluate alternatives, and substantiate engineering decisions.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher, with the ability to communicate effectively in technical and professional environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing aircraft cabin interiors, structures, mechanisms, or aerospace components.
- Familiarity with FAA, Transport Canada, or EASA certification frameworks.
- Experience supporting Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) projects or aircraft modification programs.
- Experience with engineering substantiation, structural analysis, qualification testing, or design validation.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Experience with overhead stowage bins, cabin monuments, interior structures, or related aircraft interior systems.
- Spanish or French language proficiency.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We value engineers who combine technical expertise with sound engineering judgment, accountability, and practical problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate:
- Starts with engineering requirements rather than drawings.
- Takes ownership of defined engineering work from concept through release and implementation.
- Substantiates technical decisions and communicates engineering intent clearly.
- Balances airworthiness, manufacturability, maintainability, operational requirements, schedule, and cost.
- Understands how engineering decisions influence certification, manufacturing, and real-world aircraft operations.
At GAL Aerospace, engineering extends beyond CAD. Our engineers contribute throughout the development lifecycle, transforming technical challenges into reliable, certifiable aircraft interior solutions.
LOCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS
This is a remote position.
Preferred candidate locations: Colombia and Mexico.
Candidates based elsewhere in the Americas will also be considered, provided they can work effectively within North American business hours and collaborate with GAL Aerospace teams and project stakeholders.
