About Vana

Vana is the open network for user-owned data: people decide where their data goes and who trains AI on it, and share in what it creates. Builders reach it through UU API a tool developed by OpenDataLabs (www.opendatalabs.com) on the Vana Network, the developer gateway to the protocol. Vana is build on the Personal Data Portability Protocol (PDPP) (www.pdpp.dev), an open standard hosted with the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust that underpins the way users permission their data across applications and services.

The role

You are Vana's face to the developers and product managers who build on UU API, PDPP and the protocol, and to builders at large. You own every builder relationship that touches the protocol, from a first question in Discord to a running node. About a fifth of the job is building and tinkering. The rest is developing programmes, demo-ing, working with our content team to develop builder-facing content, and managing the builders that touch our ecosystem. This is a Vana Foundation role, and you report directly to the Managing Director.

What you will do

• Set the developer marketing strategy and guide the marketing team's campaigns and content. The content team creates; you decide what gets made and why.

• Run the Builder Incentives Programme and the programmes that get data connectors built, tested and maintained. In time, run the node operator network.

• Be the first user of every developer product and system. Test them, find what is missing, and tell engineering what is required.

• Show people how to build data connectors, in writing, on video and live.

• Represent Vana in Discord, at events and online, and grow the number of builders who adopt and stay.

What we are looking for

• Zero to two years out of university, recent graduates welcome. A software engineering background: a computer science or engineering degree, or the equivalent in shipped work.

• A strong GitHub, with contributions to open-source projects you did not start.

• You love AI tools and build with them every day.

• Mission aligned. You care about who controls personal data and what AI is trained on, and it already shows in what you do.

• Outgoing, a clear communicator, comfortable on camera and on stage. Fluent, confident spoken and written English. Multi-lingual is a bonus.

• Organised enough to run programmes with budgets, deadlines and many participants.

Nice to have

• A public presence beyond GitHub: X, YouTube, a newsletter or a community you are visible in.

• Shipped a data connector, browser extension or integration against a public API.

• Run a hackathon, meetup, student society or online community.

• Familiar with open standards and open-source governance.
