Depending on Experience Salary adjusted to local market rates* POSITION SUMMARY The Development Officer (DO) is an innovative development professional responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing major and principal gifts to Museum of the Bible (MOTB). He/She helps to forge new relationships to build visibility, impact, and financial resources for MOTB. The DO is a primary participant in developing and implementing the major gift program alongside Development leadership, fellow teammates and the Chief Development Officer (CDO) across the program. He/she is responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects to expand and diversify the MOTB’s donor base/pipeline. He/she works closely with other members of the organization to secure funding for new initiatives. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key to success. This position will work in a key market area where they are located, but also take on relevant “relational fit” relationships across the United States. Working in tandem with the CEO, CDO and Director of Development to continue to identify prospects and donors in the region and beyond. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Set SMART performance objectives annually and strive to meet/exceed these goals Secure major gifts at the $100,000 to $1M level with the goal of raising $1M annually, with developed portfolio Track and report relationship management activity using constituent relationship management system (SalesForce), including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, proposal submission and stewardship of prospective and current individual major donors Act as primary manager for a portfolio of up to 200 accounts, to move potential and current donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, maintaining a balance between discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Cultivate and expand planned giving opportunities with new and existing donors, and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests Make direct, face-to-face solicitations Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition Identify & build relationships with new and prospective donors Willingness to travel to the DC Museum, across the located region, and to other MOTB events around the US as needed. Champion the Museum of the Bible’s mission to invite all people to engage with the transformative power of the Bible. As required, inclusion in official or incidental photographs and videos for MOTB and/or guests Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 8+ years of demonstrated successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising Skills: Knowledge of and experience in fundraising techniques, specifically major gift fundraising Experience developing clear and concise funding proposals Organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals Attention to detail and strong project management skills Excellent written & verbal communication skills; with good listening ability Adept at presentating to large audiences Strong software skills, including Microsoft Office & Saleforce (or similar CRM) Abilities: Must embrace & advocate for the mission of the organization Strong desire to build relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense Able to work independently as part of a team, with an ability to motivate staff Professional attitude and appearance, representing MOTB Able to be stationary (sitting or standing) for 50% of the time as needed Able to stoop, stand, climb, and occasionally lift a minimum of 20 lbs. as required.
