The Development Officer - Southeast Minnesota cultivates relationships with current and prospective major individual, corporate and foundation donors to increase their involvement and support of Minnesota PBS's services and mission.
With the leadership of the Chief Advancement Officer, the Development Officer - Southeast Minnesota creates and operationalizes an annual strategy for building support in Southeastern and South Central Minnesota.
The Development Officer - Southeast Minnesota interacts closely with the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Major and Planned Giving and other members of the Advancement Team to collaborate on donor development around grant proposals, increased annual support, and planned gifts. The position will be located in South Central or Southeastern Minnesota.
Compensation: $65,000 to $75,000 annually in addition to company provided benefits.
Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Southeast or South Central Minnesota area and report to the onsite office a minimum of three days per week in Austin, MN as well as be willing to travel to the Twin Cities metro periodically.
Individual Giving (70% of time)
- Manage a portfolio of 50 major donors and prospects ($10,000+) to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters.
- Identify donors’ passions and interests, build relationships, and leverage those relationships into meaningful support opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Giving Team to build mid-level support ($1,200 – $9,999) through acquisition and member upgrades.
- Create and present proposals to individual supporters for general operating, endowment, campaign and planned gifts, including blended asks.
- Collaborate in efforts to research new major donors.
- Work within the database to track communication, view data, and assist in analyzing data to inform and prioritize individuals and strategies.
Institutional Advancement (25% of the time)
- Manage a portfolio of 5-10 Institutional donors and prospects to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward support.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with additional private, corporate, and community foundations serving the area and leverage those relationships into meaningful support.
- Identify prospective institutional giving priorities and work with the Institutional Advancement team to create proposals and granting opportunities that align with Minnesota PBS's vision and priorities.
- Provide relationship-based support and expertise in grant recognition, compliance, and reporting.
- Work within the database to track communication, view data, and assist in analyzing data to inform and prioritize institutions and strategies.
Other Duties as Assigned (5% of time)
- Participate as an active member of the Advancement Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
- Collaborate closely with Director of Institutional Advancement and Director of Major Giving to meet individual and team goals.
- Collaborate with KSMQ Station Manager to represent Minnesota PBS in South Central and Southeastern Minnesota.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years combination of education and successful work experience.
- 4-7 years of successful fundraising experience.
- General knowledge of planned giving strategies and tools.
Preferred Experience
- 7+ years of fundraising experience with demonstrated record of developing and closing major individual and institutional gifts with a value of $10,000+.
- Experience working in a public media setting.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- The ability to create effective, high-quality relationships with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency utilizing a CRM to maximize relationship management.
- Ability to use discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn planned giving tools.
- The ability to work independently and motivate self to achieve success by taking initiative and being detail oriented.
- Strong analytical and computer application skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams.
- Strong focus on audience and end user needs
- Strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.
