Mid-Level DevOps & Platform Engineer

Location: UK Remote (Travel roughly 1 day every 1–2 months to London or Manchester)

Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 + Benefits

About the Opportunity

Our client is an established, high-growth UK SaaS business providing critical safeguarding and medical management software across thousands of schools and education trusts nationwide. Operating a modern AWS stack, they are expanding their platform capabilities and deploying a brand-new cloud region in the UAE alongside their core UK setup.

They are looking for a hands-on Mid-Level DevOps / Platform Engineer with 2–3 years of experience who is eager to learn, adapt, and grow within a close-knit engineering team. Initially reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will transition under the direct line management and mentorship of the DevOps Lead.

This is a versatile, high-visibility role where you will support both cloud infrastructure and internal IT/SysOps. The architecture, pipelines, and frameworks are already established by the DevOps Lead—your role is to help implement, maintain, pair-review, and contribute to continuous platform improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Platform & Execution: Implement AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines alongside the DevOps Lead, taking designs through to production through pair reviews and code releases.
  • UAE Region Expansion: Assist with the AWS deployment and DevOps work required to stand up the new UAE cloud region.
  • Internal Systems & IT Management: Manage internal IT operations, staff onboarding, and device endpoints using Jamf (macOS MDM), Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.
  • Internal Escalation Support: Serve as the internal technical contact for platform and infrastructure fixes to support internal teams and onboarding (no out-of-hours or direct customer support required).
  • Process & Tooling Improvement: Help automate manual tasks, streamline GitHub Actions workflows, and refine monitoring and operational guardrails.

Essential Skills & Experience (Non-Negotiables)

  • 2–3 Years DevOps / Infrastructure Experience: Proven hands-on background in a DevOps or Platform role working with CI/CD tools and code pipelines.
  • AWS Certification: Must hold an AWS Associate-level certification (e.g., AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Solutions Architect Associate, or DevOps Engineer Associate).
  • Core AWS & Cloud Skills: Solid foundation in core AWS services, networking, IAM fundamentals, and command-line/scripting.
  • Small-Team Adaptability: Experience working in smaller engineering teams or scale-up environments—comfortable "spinning plates," taking initiative, and learning on the job.
  • Open Mindset to IT & Platform: A collaborative, open approach to handling both cloud platform work and internal IT/Jamf endpoint management without being rigid about "how things must be done".
  • Flexible Travel: Comfortable travelling roughly 1 day per month (or every 2 months) to meet the team in either London or Manchester.

Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Have)

  • Hands-on experience or familiarity with Jamf for macOS MDM management.
  • Exposure to Terraform, AWS CDK, or TypeScript/Node.js tooling.
  • Exposure to multi-region setups (e.g., UAE rollout) or observability tools like New Relic.

Key Benefits

  • Salary range: £55,000 – £60,000.
  • Mostly UK remote working setup (1 day every 1–2 months in London/Manchester).
  • Direct line management and 1:1 mentorship from the DevOps Lead.
  • No out-of-hours / on-call requirements—focusing strictly on internal support and platform growth.
  • High-trust, supportive environment with genuine long-term career progression.
