DevOps Engineer (TA)

About the Role

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to lead the scaling, optimisation, and management of our cloud infrastructure behind media-scale, high-traffic web applications. In this role, you will manage robust containerised systems on AWS ECS, own our CI/CD and deployment orchestration, and drive our architectural evolution — ensuring high availability and predictable performance under heavy production traffic. AI/ML workloads are a growing part of the picture, and you will help shape how that side of the infrastructure develops. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to build automation-first solutions that align with our engineering standards.

What will you do
Cloud infrastructure and automation

• Manage, optimise, and scale cloud infrastructure on AWS using infrastructure-as-code methodologies (Terraform).
• Design, deploy, and maintain secure containerised environments on AWS ECS that scale dynamically with application demand.
• Automate complex operational tasks through scripting to minimise manual overhead and enhance system reliability.

CI/CD and deployment orchestration

• Build and refine CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, including reusable workflow design and OIDC-based authentication to AWS.
• Maintain and extend our custom deployment orchestration tooling.
• Deploy and operate serverless components — Lambda functions and Lambda container images — via the Serverless Framework.

Edge, CDN, and traffic management

• Manage Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, WAF, VPN tunnels) as code through Terraform.
• Operate Fastly in front of the web application and support multi-CDN traffic management.

Reliability, observability, and performance

• Own observability in Datadog — APM, RUM, Synthetics smoke tests, and monitors-as-code.
• Monitor system health, application performance, and concurrency metrics to guarantee high availability during peak traffic periods.
• Identify risks in infrastructure and deployment reliability early, and act before they escalate.

What we are looking for
Required Skills / Experience

• 3+ years of professional experience in DevOps or CloudOps roles.
• Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure for media-scale, high-traffic web applications. Familiarity with AI/ML services is a plus as we grow AI usage.
• Hands-on production experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code workflows.
• Hands-on production experience with GitHub Actions, including reusable workflow design and OIDC-based authentication. Experience building or maintaining custom deployment orchestration tooling is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting for infrastructure automation.
• Strong understanding of containerisation technologies, including Docker and AWS ECS, along with networking fundamentals.
• Experience with Cloudflare (CDN, DNS, WAF) and/or Fastly for multi-CDN traffic management.
• Familiarity with Datadog for APM, monitoring-as-code, and synthetic testing.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS AI/ML services or infrastructure for LLM-facing applications.
• Experience with Kubernetes (EKS), Helm charts, and cluster autoscaling mechanisms — useful, but not used day to day on the current stack.
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs, OpenAPI standards, and authentication protocols including OAuth and SAML.
