We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our growing Technology team in Hyderabad, supporting the delivery of innovative SaaS applications for the UK general insurance market. You will play a central role in building, maintaining, and evolving the cloud infrastructure and delivery pipelines that underpin our products — working closely with development squads across COA (Claims Outcome Adviser), IVI (Intelligent Vehicle Inspection), AIS (Automated Insurance Solutions), and Property UK.
This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership. You will contribute to our central cloud architecture team, helping to shape the standards and patterns that keep our AWS-hosted estate reliable, secure, and cost-effective. If you are passionate about automation, infrastructure as code, and continuous improvement — and want to work at the heart of a fast-moving, cloud-native engineering organisation — this is the role for you.
CI/CD & Delivery Automation
• Design, build, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines to support the reliable and repeatable deployment of applications across all development squads.
• Own and continuously improve the end-to-end build, test, and release automation toolchain, reducing manual effort and increasing deployment confidence.
• Work with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and TeamCity to manage pipeline configuration, build agents, and release orchestration.
• Collaborate closely with development teams to embed DevOps best practices early in the software lifecycle, from branch strategy through to production release.
Infrastructure as Code & Cloud Architecture
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform — ensuring all infrastructure is version-controlled, reproducible, and auditable.
• Design and implement highly available, resilient, and cost-effective AWS architectures that meet the performance and reliability requirements of our insurance products.
• Contribute to the central cloud architecture team, helping to define and enforce cloud standards, patterns, and guardrails across the engineering estate.
• Help develop project specifications and implementation plans for new infrastructure initiatives, working alongside architects, Tech Leads, and engineering stakeholders.
• Provide configuration recommendations and hands-on assistance to development squads, ensuring consistent and secure environment management across all tiers.
Containers & Platform Engineering
• Build, manage, and optimise containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes, supporting both development environments and production deployments.
• Support the adoption and evolution of container orchestration practices across squads, helping teams move confidently to modern, cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Contribute to platform tooling and shared services that reduce friction for development teams and promote self-service infrastructure provisioning.
Monitoring, Observability & Support
• Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions across production and pre-production environments, ensuring issues are detected and surfaced quickly.
• Provide proactive support for production environments, responding to incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
• Provide off-hours support for mission-critical issues as required, contributing to on-call rotations and maintaining agreed service levels.
• Produce and maintain runbooks, operational guides, and documentation to support consistent incident response and knowledge sharing across the team.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
• Recommend and champion solutions aligned with business requirements, balancing technical excellence with pragmatic delivery.
• Bring a strong continuous-improvement mindset to all aspects of the role — proactively identifying inefficiencies in pipelines, infrastructure, and processes and driving them to resolution.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies alongside the development squads, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement using JIRA and Azure DevOps.
• Stay current with emerging cloud technologies, DevOps tooling, and AWS service releases, advocating for adoption where they deliver tangible value.
• Proven hands-on experience in a DevOps or cloud engineering role, with a strong focus on AWS and cloud-native architectures.
• Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling — CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform — in a production environment.
• Demonstrable experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using one or more of: Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or TeamCity.
• Strong working knowledge of containerisation technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
• Development experience, with proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and tooling; familiarity with other languages is advantageous.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Chef or equivalent.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a structured, methodical approach to incident response and root cause analysis.
• Comfortable working within Agile delivery environments (Scrum/Kanban), with hands-on experience of JIRA or similar tooling.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and engage effectively with development teams and stakeholders.
Desirable
• AWS certification (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect) is highly advantageous.
• Experience contributing to a central cloud platform or architecture function, setting standards and patterns used across multiple teams.
• Familiarity with the UK general insurance or financial services sector.
• Experience working within distributed or offshore engineering teams, particularly across UK and India time zones.
• Knowledge of cloud security best practices, IAM, and cost optimisation strategies within AWS.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures, serverless computing (AWS Lambda, Step Functions), or microservices patterns.
