Location: Hereford (Hybrid – 2–3 days)

Salary: £50,000–£70,000 DOE

The Opportunity:

We're hiring for one of our long standing clients who are an established technology consultancy specialising in delivering bespoke software and infrastructure solutions across the Defence, National Security and Government sectors.

Due to continued growth and exciting project developments, they're looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join their expanding engineering team, supporting a large-scale, high-profile MOD programme.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on secure, mission-critical projects, helping to design, build and maintain modern cloud infrastructure and deployment solutions.

You'll be joining a collaborative Agile engineering team, working with a range of modern DevOps technologies and playing a key role in delivering reliable, scalable and secure software solutions.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Designing, implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure, primarily within AWS.
• Deploying, managing and scaling Kubernetes clusters.
• Working with containerisation technologies including Docker and Helm.
• Developing and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines to support software delivery.
• Implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform.
• Automating infrastructure provisioning, deployment, monitoring and maintenance.
• Ensuring infrastructure meets security, compliance and disaster recovery requirements.
• Optimising cloud environments for performance, availability and cost efficiency.
• Troubleshooting infrastructure and application issues.
• Collaborating with developers, engineers and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Previous experience working in a DevOps Engineer or similar infrastructure-focused role.
• Strong experience working with AWS cloud environments.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation tools.
• Understanding of cloud security, infrastructure monitoring and high availability.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively within engineering teams.

Desirable:

• Previous experience working within Defence, MOD or other secure Government environments.
• Active SC security clearance.
• Experience with Terraform, Helm or Packer.
• Knowledge of GitLab, Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or Elastic Stack.
• Familiarity with Vault, Artifactory, Nexus or serverless technologies.
• Experience supporting large-scale, highly available applications.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of the projects, applicants must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.

British citizenship and a minimum of five years' continuous UK residency are required for this position.
