Identity & Access Management (IAM) is a core capability for Rabobank. IAM ensures that employees and machines have access to the right resources, at the right time, for the right reasons, in a simple, user‑friendly and secure way. Hopefully you’re smiling when you see how it’s phrased while knowing all the complexity underneath.

You will join the Authentication Squad, formally known as Authentication 4 Employees, within IAM 4 Employees. Our squad is responsible for authentication services used by approximately 48,000 Rabobank employees in 34 countries.

This is a development-focused DevOps role with combined operational responsibility. You analyze requirements and technical problems, design solutions, implement and review changes, maintain pipelines, resolve vulnerabilities and help modernize our authentication landscape. You remain involved after changes reach production and contribute to support, continuity, lifecycle management and on-call duties.

Our landscape consists of approximately 75 interconnected software components, each with its own repository, pipeline, lifecycle and security and compliance requirements. Many are tightly integrated with services inside and outside the squad. Even after several years in the team, you may encounter a component you have not worked with before and need to quickly understand, troubleshoot or change. This provides considerable variety and technical depth.

Development in our squad is broader than writing application code. It includes analyzing requirements, designing solutions, reviewing code and configuration, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, implementing SaaS and PaaS integrations, improving automation, handling vulnerabilities and designing migrations. It also means ensuring that solutions are secure, monitorable, recoverable and supportable.

Our codebase includes a large PowerShell module used to install and manage local software components through Azure Pipelines, several web applications and custom Microsoft Identity Manager management agents and rules extensions. C# and PowerShell are our main development languages. Some existing components contain C++, Perl and Java, but these are not used for new development.

The wider landscape includes Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Directory Server, Entra ID Application Proxy, Yubico services, Idira Workforce Password Manager, internally developed applications and employee-facing authentication and enrolment portals.

A significant part of this landscape is mature and will evolve through targeted modernization, migration, replacement or decommissioning. At the same time, the future landscape is being shaped as we work toward a more unified and passwordless employee authentication experience.

Top responsibilities

• Analyze functional, technical, security and operational requirements and translate them into maintainable solutions.
• Produce technical designs and refine them with the lead engineer, solution architect and fellow engineers.
• Design, build, test, deploy and maintain applications, integrations and platform services.
• Develop and maintain solutions in C# and PowerShell.
• Improve automation, CI/CD and infrastructure as code (IaC) while addressing security vulnerabilities and technical debt.
• Take end-to-end ownership of our services, including production support, troubleshooting, lifecycle management and on-call duties.

Our technical landscape

You will work in a diverse hybrid environment with around 75 interconnected software components, each with its own lifecycle, dependencies and security requirements. Our core technology landscape includes:

• Development & automation: C#, PowerShell, YAML pipelines and Terraform
• CI/CD: Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines
• Identity & authentication: Entra ID, Active Directory, Microsoft Identity Manager, Red Hat Directory Server, OpenID Connect, SAML, LDAP and FIDO2
• Platforms: Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Azure, SaaS and PaaS services
• Authentication solutions: Yubico services, Idira Workforce Password Manager

Some components are mature or legacy and will be modernized, migrated, replaced or decommissioned over time. This makes the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar and interconnected systems important.

AI-assisted engineering is part of our development workflow, with GitHub Copilot supporting analysis, implementation, review, testing and documentation. Engineering judgement, ownership and peer review remain essential.

You & Your Talent

You are a medior-plus engineer who enjoys combining development with operational responsibility. You will have considerable engineering autonomy, supported by the lead engineer and solution architect.

What you bring

• Solid software engineering experience, especially with C# and PowerShell, or strong experience with comparable technologies that allows you to become productive quickly.

• Experience with CI/CD, YAML, code reviews and collaborative development.
• Experience with identity and authentication technologies and a good understanding of security principles.
• Experience working in complex, interconnected environments, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You can understand unfamiliar systems, propose sound technical solutions and explain your choices.
• A strong sense of ownership and proactivity. You identify what needs to be done, propose solutions and follow them through into production.

• A practical DevOps mindset, with a strong focus on development while taking ownership of operational responsibilities, troubleshooting and on-call duties.

• Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to have

Experience with one or more of the following is an advantage:

• Terraform and IaC
• Entra ID, Active Directory or Microsoft Identity Manager
• Yubico, FIDO2, security keys or passkeys
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Directory Server
• AI-assisted software engineering
• Dutch language skills, or a willingness to learn Dutch
