Accessibility Trainer (Contract)
Promet Source | Remote (US) with travel | Independent contractor, hourly
About the engagement
Promet Source helps government agencies and public organizations build digital experiences that work for everyone. We're looking for an independent accessibility trainer to deliver training to our clients and internal teams on creating, maintaining, and testing accessible websites and digital content.
Training audiences range from content editors and communications staff to developers and designers. Some sessions are delivered remotely, and some are on-site at client locations. The ideal contractor is part educator and part accessibility practitioner: someone who can explain WCAG clearly to a nontechnical audience and also answer detailed questions from developers.
This is an independent contractor engagement. You'll bring your own expertise, methods, and equipment, manage your own schedule outside of scheduled training sessions, and are free to work with other clients.
Scope of work
Deliver accessibility training sessions, both virtually and in person at client locations
Develop and update training materials, including presentations, hands-on exercises, and reference guides
Tailor training to different audiences, including content authors, designers, developers, and project managers
Cover practical topics such as writing accessible content, creating accessible documents and PDFs, and testing with assistive technology
Keep training content current with WCAG, Section 508, and ADA Title II requirements
Share participant feedback and recommendations for improving future sessions
What you bring
Experience delivering training, workshops, or instruction, ideally on technical topics
Strong working knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 and Section 508
Hands-on experience testing with assistive technology such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to nontechnical audiences
Comfort presenting to groups both on camera and in person
Nice to have
IAAP certification (CPACC, WAS, or CPWA)
Experience working with government or public-sector clients
Familiarity with Drupal or other content management systems
Experience with accessible document remediation (Word, PDF)
Travel
Engagements include travel within the US 0-2 times per month for on-site client training. All other work is done remotely. Travel days are compensated with a flat fee of $200 per day. Promet provides a daily meal per diem at GSA rates, and reimburses other approved travel costs at actual cost.
Rate
$60 to $70 per hour, based on experience, certifications, and skills. Contractors invoice Promet for hours worked and approved travel expenses. Terms, including scope, invoicing, expense reimbursement, and ownership of training materials, will be set out in an independent contractor agreement.
