Overview

Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) is looking for a Digital Associate to support and expand the organization’s digital media presence. The Digital Associate will support the Digital Director and broader communications team to deliver ARI’s message to policymakers and grassroots supporters across digital platforms and help to manage and build ARI’s brand online.

About ARI

ARI is a nonprofit organization advocating for artificial intelligence policy in the public interest. We believe in establishing a thoughtful governance framework for rapidly advancing AI technology that protects the public from harm while continuing to foster innovation. ARI takes a bipartisan approach, building coalitions across the political spectrum.

About the Role

Reporting to the Digital Director, the Digital Associate will support ARI’s digital engagement by designing graphics and visual packages, shooting and organizing videos, keeping the content calendar on track, and publishing across ARI’s website and social channels. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Video

  • Own ARI’s video production from planning through final delivery, including shooting at events and in-office recordings, handling camera, lighting, and audio setup, and editing finished pieces for social, web, and email.
  • Support recording and production for ARI’s virtual events and panels, from pre-event tech checks and speaker setup to capturing clean recordings and cutting highlight clips afterward.
  • Build and maintain ARI’s video archive and branded templates, such as intros, lower thirds, and caption styles, so footage and assets are easy to find and reuse.

Design

  • Create graphics for social media, email, and the web within ARI’s established brand and design system.
  • Turn ARI’s whitepapers, research, and policy work into ready-to-publish visual packages, including social graphics, simple charts, and data visualizations.
  • Lay out one-pagers, fact sheets, event materials, and other print and digital documents using ARI’s templates.

Social Media

  • Support ARI’s social channels by scheduling and publishing approved posts and adapting existing content for each platform.
  • Monitor news, online policy conversations, and coalition partner activity, flagging timely moments for the team to engage.

Digital Operations

  • Support the maintenance of ARI’s content calendar, working alongside the Digital Director, Policy, and broader Communications team on upcoming releases.
  • Maintain portions of ARI’s website with regular updates.
  • Track and report on the performance of digital content across social media platforms.

Our Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a good eye for design and enjoys making informational graphics, promotional content, and marketing collateral for ARI.
  • Has strong experience with video content, from drafting to recording and editing.
  • Is comfortable working within an established brand and appreciates design feedback and guidance.
  • Is organized and can manage several moving projects at once.
  • Is eager to learn and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Required

  • 1+ years of experience in digital communications, social media, or content production.
  • Hands-on experience creating graphics content with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.
  • Experience editing short-form video using software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, or Descript (proficiency in an unlisted video platform is also welcome).
  • Familiarity with social media and how to improve content online.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction, incorporate feedback, and work independently on assigned projects.

Preferred

  • Experience shooting video with a DSLR camera.
  • Familiarity with WordPress and a basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with social media platforms like X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky.
  • Experience in political advocacy, campaigns, or policy communications is a plus.

Compensation, Benefits, and Location

This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC. Relocation assistance may be available. ARI maintains a flexible hybrid work schedule (working in-person Tuesday–Thursday and remote on Monday and Friday).

The salary range for this role is $80,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience.

ARI offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: 85% of premiums are covered for employees, partners, and dependents.
  • Paid Time Off: Discretionary PTO and ~20 office holidays, including all federal holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: 6% employer match.
  • Professional Development Stipend: Up to $2,500 annually to be used towards building new knowledge and skills.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts: Dependent Care FSA, Medical FSA, Transit FSA, and Parking FSA.
  • Basic Life, Basic AD&D, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability: 100% employer-paid with the option to elect for employee-paid supplemental coverage.
  • Wellness Benefit: $150/month taxable stipend to support physical and mental well-being.
  • Internet & Utilities Reimbursement: $150/month taxable stipend to cover internet and utilities expenses from remote work.
  • Home Office Expenses for New Employees: Up to $500 for all new full-time employees for home office set-up expenses.

How to Apply

To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter, and portfolio highlighting your relevant experience and accomplishments in digital communications. In the portfolio, please include examples of successful digital media, graphic, and short-form video projects you led.

The priority deadline for this role is November 30.
