About Us
TBO Bank serves its customers from our hometown location in Orrick, Missouri as well as our newest location in Prairie Village, Kansas. We’ve taken pride in building banking relationships that have spanned decades. Now we’re bringing “the feel” of hometown banking to a broader landscape. Our mission: to connect and empower in a way that is human, relatable and real. As we expand the reach of our relationships, you can feel secure working for a bank that just gets it.
Position Summary/Objective
We're hiring a Compliance Lead to be the dedicated compliance owner for our Online Banking Division. This role will perform a broad range of functions related to the bank’s Compliance Management System while following established policies and procedures and must maintain knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the bank. The main purpose of this role is to assess risk, weigh regulatory intent against business objectives, and give product, marketing, and operations teams clear guidance.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of consumer financial protection laws, state consumer lending requirements, and digital lending operational environments. This individual should be comfortable performing regulatory research, validating controls and first-line monitoring activities, reviewing customer-facing materials, and supporting remediation efforts within a highly regulated consumer lending environment. This role will have direct access to the digital banking leadership team and real influence over how products are built and serviced.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Compliance risk assessment for new products, features, marketing campaigns, and process changes. Providing clear, risk related guidance.
- The digital lending compliance monitoring and testing program; design, execution, findings and remediation follow through.
- Regulatory interpretation for consumer lending questions with clear documentation to justify the interpretation.
- Complaint management; respond to and monitor incoming complaints, trend analysis, root cause identification and escalating systemic issues.
- Compliance review of third-party partners and vendors supporting the program.
- Exam and audit readiness for digital lending, including evidence, responses and remediation tracking.
- Recurring reporting to the Director of Compliance and leadership on risk, findings and trends.
Experience and Qualifications
- 4+ years in a direct consumer compliance role (compliance function, not adjacent operations) at a bank, fintech, or consumer lender.
- Working knowledge of TILA/Reg Z, ECOA/Reg B, FCRA, EFTA/Reg E, UDAAP, TCPA, MLA/SCRA, E-SIGN, and state lending requirements.
- Demonstrated experience making and defending judgment calls where regulatory guidance is ambiguous.
- Strong written communication: you can turn a complex regulatory issue into a clear recommendation.
- Proficient in Excel (joining data-sets and reporting).
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex environments; ability to self-start.
Physical Requirements**
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
- Must be able to use a computer and other office equipment (e.g., phone, printer).
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and through written correspondence.
- Ability to concentrate and focus on tasks for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.
*TBO Bank is proud to have an inclusive culture committed to ensuring equal employment opportunity in all employment decisions regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, military status, veteran status or any other legally protected status.
** The physical demands listed are a requirement to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Hybrid opportunity for the right candidate. The expectation is the incumbent would be in the Prairie Village location 2-3 day per week.
