Job Summary:
The Director, Digital Analytics Architecture and Engineering owns the strategy, architecture, governance, delivery, support, and optimization of the data layer and tagging architecture across the company’s websites, applications, user portals, and downstream marketing systems. This leader defines the blueprint for how customer and behavioral data flows from digital experiences through standardized data layers into tag management systems (TMS) and other downstream platforms. They establish the long-term technical direction and operating model for the digital analytics ecosystem, ensuring that the architecture is scalable, compliant, and capable of producing reliable, actionable data for lead intake, sales generation, and customer experience decisions. This is a new role for Collette, and this person will be responsible for standing up a new architecture for our Digital Products Systems.
This leader aligns product engineering, marketing, analytics, and operations around a shared digital analytics strategy, portfolio priorities, delivery commitments, and measurable outcomes. They establish decision-making and escalation mechanisms, communicate progress and risk to senior stakeholders, and sequence complex initiatives across multiple phases when necessary.
The Director serves as the senior technical authority for the company’s digital analytics ecosystem, including its websites, applications and user portals, data layer architecture, user-driven events, tagging standards, tag management systems (TMS), consent controls, and downstream integrations. They define architectural principles, data contracts, naming conventions, and engineering standards; guide significant technical decisions; and ensure that data moves through the ecosystem securely, consistently, reliably, and sustainably.
Primary Functions:
- Define and maintain the end-to-end digital analytics architecture, documenting how customer and behavioral data flows from websites, applications, and user portals through standardized data layers into tag management systems (TMS), analytics platforms, and downstream marketing integrations.
- Work with product management to create a product & technical roadmap.
- Document change-management decisions and proposed roadmap changes.
- Translate business and compliance needs from marketing team into clear technical requirements.
- Turn complex technical requirements into quarterly projects and sequence tasks realistically to meet deadlines.
- Facilitate alignment among web engineers, marketing analysts, product management and digital analytics, ensuring stakeholders are informed throughout project planning and execution.
- Create comprehensive testing plans which include stakeholders’ acceptance testing phases.
- Own tracking, consent and data usage requirements; ensure these are included into each project across digital platforms.
- As projects bring systems online, coordinate with operations and support teams to identify run-state requirements, support models, handoff needs. Identify production risks so projects are scoped with ongoing ownership in mind.
- Lead and develop a management structure that may include managers responsible for distinct areas of digital analytics engineering. Set clear accountabilities, coach leaders, assess organizational capacity, support succession planning, and evolve team structure and skills as the digital analytics portfolio grows.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in modern digital-platform architecture across websites, applications, user portals, frontend and backend services, standardized data layers, tag management systems (TMS), and third-party marketing integrations, with the ability to document current-state data flows, define scalable target-state architecture, and set technical direction.
- Experience partnering with product management and senior stakeholders to create product and technical roadmaps, govern change decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and translate strategy into realistic quarterly delivery plans.
- A track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives across engineering, marketing, product management, digital analytics, privacy, and operations, establishing clear requirements, decision rights, milestones, and accountability for outcomes.
- Deep experience with digital analytics, event tracking, data layer design, tag management systems (TMS), consent management, customer relationship management, and marketing technology platforms, including the governance of event schemas, naming conventions, data collection, usage, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to produce clear technical, decision, and change-management documentation; define comprehensive testing and stakeholder acceptance plans; and communicate architecture, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering or analytics organizations through managers, including setting direction, developing leaders, planning capacity, identifying delivery and production risks early, and establishing sustainable operating and support models.
