Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director, AI4IT Office leads Rockwell Automation's program to redesign how IT works with AI. The goal is ambitious: double what IT delivers at the same cost by rebuilding workflows end to end, with AI agents handling routine work and people setting direction, applying judgment, and owning results. IT goes first, and what works becomes the playbook the rest of the enterprise adopts.
You will own the program, the roadmap, and the results across every IT function. You will run a small central office, direct embedded teams in each area of IT, and turn early pilots into measured, production-grade outcomes. You will report to the Vice President, Strategy, Architecture, AI & Innovation.
Your Responsibilities:
- Program Strategy and Leadership
- Own the AI4IT program, roadmap, and results across all IT functions, serving as the single accountable leader for the mandate.
- Stand up the central office and operating model, then scale it from first pilots to production across IT.
- Build and publish the playbook that extends AI-first ways of working beyond IT to the wider enterprise.
- Portfolio and Workflow Redesign
- Lead opportunity identification with IT leaders and maintain a ranked AI opportunity map for every IT function.
- Manage a portfolio spanning software engineering and agentic coding, legacy modernization, service desk, IT operations, security operations, QA and testing, cloud cost optimization, project delivery, vendor management, and business analysis.
- Run stage gates from identifying to redesign, pilot, and scale, making clear stop, redirect, or scale decisions.
- Value Measurement and Reporting
- Establish baselines and quantified targets before any workflow is redesigned.
- Own the value dashboard and a regular reporting cadence to senior IT leadership, focused on cycle time, quality, cost per unit, and customer outcomes.
- Report freed capacity each quarter and redeploy it into modernization, innovation, and new services.
- Governance and Responsible AI
- Maintain the approved-tool list and a shared library of prompts, skills, agents, and reusable patterns.
- Partner with architecture, security, and design authority teams, so every new tool, model, and pattern is reviewed and signed off before production.
- Ensure that every AI agent in production has a named human owner and a clear escalation path.
- People, Teams, and Adoption
- Build embedded teams nominated from across IT for domain depth, peer credibility, and a builder mindset, using rotations that return people to their teams as multipliers.
- Grow a champions network and partner with training teams on role-based AI fluency at scale.
- Champion with a capacity-not-cuts approach, ensuring reskilling paths accompany any change in roles.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
- The ability to travel, including internationally, up to 25% of the time.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

- Experience in IT leadership, enterprise transformation, or AI and automation programs.
- Hands-on fluency with generative AI and agentic tools, including coding agents, copilots, connectors, evaluation, and guardrails, with credibility among engineers and architects.
- Proven ability to build baselines, value dashboards, and portfolio governance, and to make decisions from data.
- Experience across multiple IT functions such as software engineering, infrastructure and operations, service desk, security, cloud and FinOps, or project delivery.
- Track record of leading through influence across matrixed organizations, including architecture, security, finance, and HR.
- Experience standing up a central office or center of excellence with embedded team or rotation models.
- Experience leading change management and reskilling at scale.
- Demonstrated experience communicating with senior leadership audiences.
