What You'll Do:

The Director, Assistant Controller oversees assigned accounting operations and financial reporting activities, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information. This role leads accounting teams, maintains effective internal controls, drives process improvements, supports compliance requirements, and partners with business and finance leaders to support organizational objectives. The position provides leadership across accounting processes, financial governance, risk management, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead assigned accounting functions and related financial reporting activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Oversee accounting processes, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support preparation and review of financial analyses, reporting packages, and management information.
  • Partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Human Resources, Operations, and other stakeholders to support business objectives.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit activities and support timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and operational efficiencies.
  • Support acquisitions, integrations, system implementations, and organizational changes as required.
  • Develop team capabilities through coaching, training, succession planning, and performance management.

Qualifications

Experience:

10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience in a large, complex, multi-entity organization. Controllership leadership spanning both record-to-report and transactional accounting operations (accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit, payroll accounting). Demonstrated ownership of internal control design, control evidence standards and external audit support. Experience with reserve methodology, including bad debt/CECL, and risk or loss accrual estimation. Track record of process standardization, automation and shared-service or outsourced-provider governance. Experience leading managers of teams through growth, integration and transformation CPA required.

Education & Credentials:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; MBA or advanced degree preferred; CPA required.

Technical Skills:

  • ERP platforms, including Oracle Cloud (preferred) or SAP, covering general ledger, payables, receivables, fixed assets, intercompany and project modules.
  • Account reconciliation and close-management tools (BlackLine or equivalent), including task management, certification workflow and matching automation.
  • Procure-to-pay and order-to-cash platforms, including invoice automation, corporate card, credit and collections tools.
  • Payroll systems and payroll accounting interfaces; expense management platforms • US GAAP required; technical research and application (preferred but not required).
  • Internal control frameworks, process narrative documentation and control evidence standards.
  • Advanced understanding of master data governance tools and standards for customer, vendor and chart of accounts data.
  • Advanced Excel plus data analytics and visualization tools (for example Power BI or Alteryx) for reserve analytics, AR aging, DPO/DSO and close metrics reporting.
  • Process automation and continuous-improvement methods (RPA, workflow tooling, Lean/Six Sigma concepts).
  • Intermediate proficiency with AI assistants (for example Microsoft Copilot or Claude) applied to automation and efficiency gains across close, reconciliation and transactional operations — identifying use cases, designing repeatable prompts and workflows, quantifying effort and cycle time savings, and driving adoption and safe-use standards across the team.

Other:

  • Owns design and operating effectiveness of internal controls across record-to-report, procure-to pay and order-to-cash; serves as the principal support contact for internal and external audit.
  • Owns unclaimed property and escheatment compliance and the associated filings calendar.
  • Owns shared-service SLA governance and outsourced-provider performance management.
  • Provides accounting operations leadership on acquisitions, divestitures, ERP implementations and shared-service transitions.
  • Newly defined role; scope and structure may evolve as the global operating model and automation agenda mature.

  • Reserve estimation (bad debt/CECL, risk and loss accruals), unclaimed property compliance, master data governance.
  • Internal control design and evidence standards, process narratives, SLA governance; ERP platforms (Oracle Cloud preferred).

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, or similar conditions. Requires extended use of a computer keyboard, viewing of a computer monitor, and the ability to sit for long periods of time. May require work during financial close, audit, reporting deadlines, or other critical business cycles.
