Director, Brand & Marketing Communications

Landmark Ventures

Is this job info correct?

Landmark Ventures is seeking an exceptional Director, Brand & Marketing Communications to lead how Landmark and our growing portfolio of brands communicate with the world. This is a senior, hands-on role at the intersection of brand, communications, content and marketing; a brand-first position for someone with strong creative judgment and taste. We are looking for a strong writer and editor who can also look across our websites, presentations, proposals, digital experiences and other market-facing materials, see what could be significantly better, and help make it so. You do not need to be a designer, but you need a highly developed eye for what great looks like. The Director will own and elevate Landmark’s brand voice, messaging and communications standards; lead the development of high-value content and communications; steward our portfolio of brands; and help bring new brands, programs and initiatives from idea to launch. At its core, this is a role for someone with extraordinary creative judgment and taste – someone equally comfortable refining a message, rethinking a presentation, evaluating a website or directing a creative partner toward better visual work. There is a tremendous amount of communication that happens across Landmark every day – websites, presentations, proposals, event invitations, thought leadership, speaker materials, marketing campaigns, executive communications and more. We need someone who can partner with our teams to make it better. This person will help determine what we say, how we say it and how we show up – then work across our team and creative partners to bring that vision to life. And in a world where AI can generate an endless amount of reasonably good content, we believe taste, judgment and originality matter more than ever. The right person will know how to use AI exceptionally well – to research, explore, prompt, draft and iterate – while having the judgment and editorial ability to transform good work into great work. Key Responsibilities Brand Strategy & Stewardship Own and evolve how Landmark and our portfolio of brands show up in the world. Own Landmark’s brand voice, messaging, positioning and communications standards. Translate brand strategy into practical guidelines, messaging frameworks and tools that can be used across the organization. Ensure brand consistency and quality across websites, presentations, proposals, marketing materials, events and digital experiences. Serve as a steward of Landmark’s brand guidelines and help teams apply them thoughtfully across different audiences and contexts. Partner with leadership to continually refine how Landmark tells its story to clients, prospects, partners, employees and other stakeholders. Help oversee and evolve the identities of Landmark’s growing portfolio of brands. The goal is to create standards, tools and shared creative playbooks that help us consistently produce thoughtful, distinctive and compelling communications. Writing, Editorial & Executive Communications Serve as a senior writer, editor and communications partner for Landmark’s most important work. Write, edit and elevate high-value communications across the organization. Develop and refine website copy, presentations, pitch decks, proposals, capabilities materials, executive communications, thought leadership, event invitations, speaker materials and other strategic content. Partner with company leadership on communications that require a particularly high level of thought, nuance or polish. Establish editorial standards for voice, tone, structure and quality across Landmark. Help teams translate complex ideas into clear, concise and compelling communications. Review and improve work produced internally, externally or with AI before it reaches important audiences. Sometimes you’ll start with a blank page. Often, you’ll start with something that’s already 80% there. Your job is to see the remaining 20%. Marketing Communications & Content Translate Landmark’s brands, ideas and stories into compelling market-facing communications. Partner with marketing, sales, events and business teams to develop messaging and content for campaigns, launches and ongoing communications. Develop content across email, web, social, events, sales materials and other marketing channels. Help establish content strategies and editorial calendars across Landmark and its portfolio of brands. Ensure communications are tailored appropriately for different audiences, objectives and channels rather than simply repeating the same message everywhere. Develop repeatable messaging, templates and content systems that enable teams to produce high-quality work more efficiently. Support thought leadership and other content initiatives that strengthen Landmark’s market presence and point of view. This is not a traditional demand-generation or performance-marketing role, nor is it a design or creative director role. The focus is on elevating how our brands show up in the world – across messaging, content, visual execution and the overall quality of our market-facing work. Brand Development & Launches Help turn new ideas into real brands, programs, events and communities. Lead or support the development of positioning, naming, messaging and brand architecture for new initiatives. Develop clear creative and brand briefs that translate strategy into actionable direction. Work with designers and creative partners to develop visual identities, websites, launch materials and supporting brand assets. Manage brand and creative projects from initial concept through development, refinement and launch. Help establish the guidelines, templates and foundational materials needed to successfully operate a new brand after launch. Maintain coherence across Landmark’s portfolio while allowing individual brands to have distinct identities and personalities. This person should be comfortable moving a process from idea → positioning → identity → execution → launch. Creative Direction & Execution Turn strategy and words into exceptional finished work. Brief and direct graphic designers, web developers, agencies, freelancers and other creative partners. Provide clear, thoughtful and actionable feedback throughout the creative process. Review creative work for messaging, design, brand consistency and overall quality. Bring strong visual judgment and taste to websites, presentations, proposals and other market-facing work, ensuring the words, visuals and overall presentation work together. Recognize when work feels generic, dated, inconsistent or simply not at the level we should be putting into the marketplace – and articulate why. Manage communications, brand and creative projects from brief through final delivery. Help navigate and manage the right external creative resources for different projects. Maintain high standards while balancing quality, speed, budget and practical business needs. You don’t need to personally design the website or build the presentation. But you should know what great looks like – and know how to help talented people get there. AI & Modern Communications Help Landmark develop an AI-leveraged approach to communications without producing AI-toned communications. Use modern AI tools extensively for research, ideation, drafting, iteration, editing and creative exploration. Develop effective approaches to incorporating AI across different communications workflows. Help establish AI-enabled tools, processes and standards that improve the speed and quality of content creation across Landmark. Apply strong editorial judgment to distinguish genuinely strong ideas from polished but generic output. Ensure final communications retain originality, personality, accuracy and a distinctly human point of view. AI can produce ten good options in seconds. The skill we’re looking for is knowing which one matters, what’s still wrong with it and how to make it great. Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will bring: 7+ years of relevant experience in brand, communications, content, marketing communications, editorial, creative or a related discipline. Exceptional creative judgment and brand instincts, including strong writing and editing skills and a highly developed visual sensibility, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality market-facing work across multiple formats. Demonstrated experience developing brand positioning, messaging, voice and communications standards. Experience creating and overseeing content across websites, presentations, proposals, campaigns, events and other external communications. Strong understanding of brand identity and enough design fluency to effectively brief, direct and evaluate creative work. Experience developing creative briefs and managing designers, developers, agencies or other external creative partners. Experience bringing brands, products, programs or campaigns from concept through launch. Strong fluency with modern AI tools and AI-assisted creative workflows. Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple brands, projects and priorities simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working directly with senior executives and cross-functional teams. Strong business curiosity and the ability to understand sophisticated B2B audiences, complex offerings and the commercial objective behind a communication. High standards, strong attention to detail and the ability to move from strategy to hands-on execution. Agency experience or experience managing multiple brands or experience in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment is a plus. The Person We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone who is equal parts brand thinker, creative operator, writer and editor – with the taste and judgment to elevate both what we say and how we show up visually. Your career may come from brand strategy, communications, editorial, content, creative, marketing or an agency environment. It may not fit neatly into a single category. That’s okay. What matters is that you’re someone people naturally turn to when something important needs to be communicated well. You can look at a sentence and know it isn’t quite right. You can look at a 30-slide presentation and identify the five slides that actually tell the story. You can look at a website, presentation or campaign and immediately see where the visual hierarchy, imagery, design, words or overall experience are keeping it from feeling exceptional. You can listen to someone explain a complicated idea and find the three sentences that make it understandable. You can look at a piece of market-facing work and know that, while technically polished, it still doesn’t quite work – and explain why. You understand that different audiences and moments require different messages. You care about the details without losing sight of the objective. You can create something from scratch, but you’re equally energized by making something good significantly better. You have high standards, but you ship. And most importantly, you have the judgment, curiosity and taste to know the difference between finished and great.
