Job Summary

Ready to change how a Life Insurance business uses data to grow? As Director, Business Intelligence & Analytics, you will lead a team of two analysts and serve as the go-to data and analytics partner across our Life Insurance organization. You will transform how the business accesses and uses data, turning insights from distribution and sales, new business, and customer and agent experience into decisions that drive profitable growth.

Your team will own a portfolio of field-facing and operational reports and dashboards, build statistical models, and provide the analytical horsepower behind high-visibility, cross-functional initiatives. You will influence data and analytics strategy, review and approve analytics initiatives, oversee the support and evolution of existing data products, and bring innovative ideas to business leadership, then lead them through to implementation. This is a highly visible role for a builder who wants to see their work move the needle.

Essential Job Functions

In this role, you will lead the analytics engine behind our Life Insurance business. You will develop advanced, value-driven analytics solutions, from statistical models that sharpen our understanding of the application funnel, policy placement, and persistency to Power BI dashboards that give agents, field leaders, and operations teams the insights they need to act. You will own and continuously evolve a portfolio of field-facing and operational reports and dashboards so they keep pace with changing business needs.
As a trusted partner to leaders across distribution and sales, customer and agent experience, and operations, you will identify the biggest opportunities to unlock business value, translate them into clear analytics requirements and business plans, and drive them to resolution. You will apply a deep understanding of the data elements, structures, and standards common in financial services and Life Insurance, including cloud-based data storage and sharing, to balance regulatory and compliance requirements with business needs. You will consult on UAT, technical specifications, strategic planning, contract design, testing, and training, and independently lead highly complex projects with little to no guidance.
As a people leader, you will supervise, coach, and manage the performance of two analysts, deliver regular feedback, and support their professional development, fostering a high-performance culture where excellence is standard and innovation is actively encouraged. You will craft strategic plans and turn them into action for your team and for partners across three or more business domains, communicating strategy in a way that resonates with audiences new to data and analytics and helping enable enterprise priorities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, preferably in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.Master's degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or an MBA with a quantitative focus preferred. Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or insurance industry designations (e.g., LOMA FLMI), are a plus.

Experience Requirements

7-10 years of related work experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data science required, including:
  • Building and maintaining enterprise reporting and dashboards in Power BI (or a comparable BI tool) for business and front-line audiences, including data modeling and DAX
  • Applying statistical and predictive modeling techniques (e.g., regression, segmentation, propensity or retention modeling) to solve business problems and influence decisions
  • Hands-on proficiency with SQL and experience working with data warehouses, data marts, and cloud-based data platforms across multiple source systems
  • Partnering with senior business leaders to translate ambiguous questions into analytics requirements, prioritized roadmaps, and measurable business outcomes
  • Leading complex, cross-functional analytics initiatives with IT, data science, product, and vendor partners from concept through implementation
  • Establishing data quality, governance, and reporting standards, and resolving data issues across systems
  • Communicating insights and recommendations clearly to executive and non-technical audiences
Preferred experience:
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience, ideally in Life Insurance, with familiarity with new business, underwriting, policy administration, and distribution data
  • Experience analyzing sales and distribution performance, application funnel and throughput, placement, persistency, or agent and customer experience metrics
  • Experience in a people leader or management role, including coaching and developing analysts
  • Experience supporting field-facing or agent-facing reporting in a distribution-driven organization
