Director, Commissioning, EMEA
Role Summary
The Commissioning Director, EMEA will lead commissioning across STACK data centre projects, from early project engagement through testing, validation and final power and facilities handover. This role provides programme-level leadership for the planning, development and consistent execution of commissioning activities across mission-critical facilities, ensuring systems perform safely, reliably and in line with design intent and client requirements.
Working across engineering, construction, operations and external commissioning partners, you will set and maintain commissioning standards, oversee test strategies and documentation, and provide clear visibility of progress, risk and readiness across the EMEA portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the development and execution of commissioning plans across STACK EMEA projects, including all commissioning levels through Integrated Systems Testing and handover.
· Develop, standardise and review commissioning documentation, including Functional Performance Tests, Factory Acceptance Tests, equipment start-up procedures, installation checklists, test protocols, scripts and methods.
· Ensure commissioning documentation and activities align with project design, specifications, Basis of Design and Owner’s Project Requirements.
· Provide programme-level oversight of multi-discipline pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across critical infrastructure construction and special projects.
· Coordinate with project teams, client engineers and technical stakeholders to assess issues identified during testing, determine criticality and drive appropriate resolution.
· Oversee QA/QC of pre-functional and functional test results, ensuring completeness, accuracy and appropriate interpretation of results.
· Provide commissioning input into project design, planning and schedules, identifying risks, dependencies and potential constraints early.
· Ensure commissioning activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, quality and technical standards, and actively support STACK safety programmes.
· Manage and coordinate commissioning agents and subcontractors on site, escalating issues or potential blockers that could affect project delivery.
· Track commissioning progress against key delivery milestones and provide programme reporting, metrics and data-driven insight to stakeholders.
· Partner with Procurement, Legal, Finance and other functions to develop effective cross-functional processes and resolve delivery gaps.
· Manage commissioning budgets and support effective commercial oversight of commissioning activities.
What You’ll Bring
· Demonstrable commissioning leadership experience within data centres or other mission-critical environments, with strong experience managing complex mechanical and electrical commissioning programmes.
· A qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
· Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical plant and services supporting mission-critical Data Centre environments, including MV/LV distribution switchgear, automatic transfer schemes, standby generators, UPS, chillers, CRAC/CRAH systems, ancillary cooling plant, BMS and automation/monitoring systems.
· Advanced understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems commissioning, controls and design principles.
· Ability to read and interpret construction and technical documentation, including electrical and mechanical schematics, control diagrams, specifications and design drawings.
· Knowledge of Data Centre and mission-critical design concepts, commissioning standards and safety requirements.
· Experience developing and reviewing test scripts and protocols that validate design intent and operational performance.
· Commercial awareness, including budget management, contracting considerations, programme reporting and performance metrics.
· Strong communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, delivery, operations, clients and external partners.
· Comfort working across multiple projects and countries, with the ability to travel to EMEA project and installation sites as required (approximately 20%).
