The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is seeking an experienced and influential policy leader to join us as Director, Energy and Resources Policy.
This is an opportunity to lead the energy and resources policy reform agenda at a pivotal time for NSW's transition to renewable energy. You'll provide strategic and technical advice on complex policy matters, influencing government decision-making and shaping outcomes for communities across the state.
About the Role
As Director, you'll lead the development of energy and resources policy that supports NSW's transition to renewable energy and a more streamlined planning system. You’ll provide clear strategic and technical advice on complex and emerging issues, helping senior decision-makers navigate legislative requirements, limited information and competing priorities.
You’ll guide a multidisciplinary policy team, build strong relationships across government, industry and communities, and lead engagement on sensitive mining and renewable energy matters. Your focus will be on turning complex evidence and diverse perspectives into balanced policy solutions that support government objectives and deliver meaningful outcomes for NSW.
About you:
- An experienced policy leader who can operate confidently in complex, high-profile and politically sensitive environments.
- Strong strategic judgement and the ability to critically analyse technical, legislative and policy issues, including where information is limited and stakeholders hold competing views. You can translate complexity into practical policy solutions and trusted advice.
- You are a persuasive communicator and skilled negotiator who can build trusted relationships across government, industry and the community. You understand the importance of meaningful engagement, particularly where policy or major projects have significant impacts on communities.
- As a people leader, you create direction and purpose, develop capability and support a collaborative culture where different perspectives contribute to stronger outcomes.
