ABOUT THE ROLE
- The Director, Fair Banking, Enterprise Compliance Advisory position serves as a strategic compliance leader responsible for directing, executing and optimizing enterprise-wide fair banking and fair lending programs. This leadership role provides sophisticated regulatory guidance, strategic risk assessment, and consultative expertise across all business lines, including core retail banking operations and complex FinTech partnership ecosystems. This position serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, driving fair banking program design, program execution including fair lending testing, fair banking risk assessment, Fair Banking and UDAAP Policy and Program execution, ADA compliance, the CRA and HMDA programs and fostering a culture of regulatory adherence and fair treatment of consumers. This leader is expected to operate as a player/coach, managing one direct report.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Leadership & Strategic Direction
- Assists the Head of Compliance Advisory with designing the Fair Banking Program
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of compliance professionals, fostering talent development and succession planning
- Serve as a key strategic advisor to the Head of Compliance Advisory and business unit leaders on complex fair banking matters and emerging regulatory trends
- Drive the fair banking culture across the organization through executive presence, thought leadership, and cross-functional influence
Fair Banking Advisory & Risk Management
- Oversee the daily activities of a comprehensive Fair Banking Program, including the Fair Banking Policy & Program and UDAAP Policy & Program, delivering sophisticated fair lending and consumer protection counsel to internal stakeholders and external business partners
- Provide authoritative interpretation of complex fair lending and consumer protection regulatory requirements and their strategic implications for business operations
- Lead enterprise-wide regulatory change management and advisory efforts for ECOA, the Fair Housing Act (FHA), HMDA, CRA, ADA, WCAG, Military Lending and CAN-SPAM
- Direct horizon scanning activities to identify emerging fair banking and fair lending risks and opportunities, positioning the organization ahead of industry trends
- Partners with the Enterprise Compliance leaders and team members to develop and implement fair banking risk assessment frameworks for all products, services, and business initiatives, including CRA, Military Lending Act, and marketing material reviews
- Oversee the enterprise Complaints Management Program, ensuring timely identification, escalation, and resolution of consumer complaints and root-cause trend analysis
- Direct exam management activities for fair banking-related regulatory examinations, coordinating responses, evidence, and remediation with examiners and internal stakeholders
Stakeholder Engagement & Business Partnership
- Cultivate and maintain executive-level relationships with key stakeholders across all business functions and external partners
- Partner with Legal, Risk Management, Internal Audit, Marketing, and business leaders to ensure integrated governance and risk management approaches to fair banking and fair lending
- Represent Compliance in executive forums, product development committees, and strategic planning sessions
- Negotiate and influence business decisions to balance growth objectives with regulatory requirements
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Legal Studies, or related field required
- Active compliance certification (CRCM) strongly preferred
- 10+ years of progressive experience in financial services compliance, with a focus in fair banking and fair lending
- 5+ years in a leadership or management capacity with demonstrated success building and leading teams
- Experience with fair banking regulatory examinations, audit processes, and regulatory relationship management
- Proven track record in advisory roles supporting complex business initiatives and strategic decision-making
- FinTech compliance, banking-as-a-service, or partnership banking models highly valued
- Experience working with federal and state regulatory agencies (FDIC, OCC, CFPB, State Banking Departments)
- Meticulous attention to detail with ability to oversee complex, multi-faceted compliance programs simultaneously
- Strong project and program management capabilities with consistent delivery of results
- Proficiency with compliance management systems, regulatory tracking tools, and data analytics platforms
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining collaborative partnerships across the enterprise

- Change Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity, drive transformation, and adapt to rapidly evolving regulatory environments
- Team Development: Track record of building, mentoring, and developing high-performing compliance teams
