Reporting to the Senior Director, Field Medical Effectiveness & Training, the Director, Field Medical Effectiveness & Training is responsible for advancing training, conference excellence, and field effectiveness initiatives across the Field Medical organization.
The Director leads the development, execution, and continuous evolution of Field Medical training, onboarding, certification, conference excellence, and field effectiveness programs. The role establishes the strategy, governance, and operating model for medical congress planning and execution, driving consistency, scalability, and organizational impact across all medical congress activities. The Director partners cross-functionally to ensure programs are scientifically rigorous, compliant, and aligned with organizational priorities while building scalable capabilities, processes, systems, and infrastructure that enable organizational growth and evolving Medical Affairs priorities.
This role is fully remote. Travel to headquarters for meetings may be required at the discretion of management.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Training Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of Field Medical training and annual training plan, ensuring alignment with Medical Affairs objectives and evolving business needs
- Align training initiatives with broader field effectiveness and Medical Affairs objectives
- Maintain deep scientific and therapeutic area expertise to serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring training content, conference strategy, and field medical resources remain accurate, current, and aligned with evolving data and clinical practice
- Lead development of ongoing training programs (disease state, products, data updates) and associated assessments
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and SMEs to build and deliver training content
- Oversee creation, review, and maintenance of training materials and slide decks
Onboarding & Certification
- Lead onboarding strategy and readiness programs that ensure consistent and scalable field engagement capabilities across the organization
- Design and evolve certification frameworks, readiness standards, and assessment methodologies that support consistent field excellence
- Partner with internal SMEs to deliver onboarding and certification activities
- Support training and onboarding for global Field Medical teams
- Develop scalable training capabilities that support organizational growth, product launches, and evolving portfolio needs.
- Maintain onboarding materials and resources to ensure accuracy and compliance
Training Operations & Execution
- Own the Field Medical training operating model, ensuring effective planning, execution, measurement, and continuous improvement
- Manage integrated training calendars, logistics, and scheduling of training programs
- Oversee end-to-end training workflows, including vendor management and content review processes
- Create feedback mechanisms and performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and continuously improve training outcomes
- Execute the strategy, governance, and optimization roadmap for learning systems and training technologies
- Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of training completion and certifications
- Support adoption of tools that enhance training delivery and scalability
Conference Leadership
- Lead the strategic planning and execution of medical congresses, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and scientific priorities
- Establish and continuously evolve a conference excellence framework that drives consistency, scalability, operational efficiency, and organizational learning across congress activities
- Partner with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Compliance, Legal, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure coordinated planning and execution of congress-related activities
- Oversee conference planning timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder readiness to ensure successful execution before, during, and after each event
- Drive longitudinal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance conference strategy, processes, tools, and outcomes across events
- Define performance measures and evaluate congress effectiveness to inform future investment priorities, process improvements, and strategic decision-making
Field Medical Effectiveness
- Execute Field Medical Effectiveness initiatives, including medical insights analysis to inform organizational strategy and decision-making
- Serve as a strategic thought partner in advancing field effectiveness, training excellence, and scientific engagement capabilities
- Maintain subject matter expertise to support training, conference strategy, and field effectiveness initiatives
- Provide limited temporary field support, as needed, to maintain business continuity during periods of organizational transition
Compliance & Governance
- Establish governance processes that ensure Field Medical training programs consistently meet regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with Compliance and key stakeholders to define governance standards, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices across training programs
- Through MLR, ensure appropriate review, approval, and oversight processes are established for training content and educational materials
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, etc.) required
- 8+ years of progressive Medical Affairs and/or Field Medical experience, including 4+ years of Medical Science Liaison experience and demonstrated success leading training, capability-building, field effectiveness, or organizational excellence initiatives. Equivalent combinations of experience demonstrated impact, and leadership responsibilities will be considered.
- Prior Medical Affairs training experience preferred
- Experience in thyroid eye disease, autoimmune disease, rare disease, or related therapeutic areas preferred
- Proven track record successfully delivering high impact medical training, onboarding, and field readiness programs
- Deep understanding of Medical Affairs operations, MLR review processes, compliance requirements, and the regulatory environment governing scientific exchange
- Proven success leading complex cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders across multiple functions and levels of the organization
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across multiple functions
- Experience developing scalable processes, governance structures, and measures of organizational effectiveness
- Proven ability to make high-quality decisions in dynamic and ambiguous environments
- Experience leveraging analytics and performance metrics to inform program strategy and continuous improvement
- Experience with LMS platforms, CRM tools (e.g., Veeva), and training systems preferred
- Strong program leadership, project management, organizational, and change management skills, with a proven ability to drive execution and deliver results
- Demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, compliance, and patient-focused decision-making
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to 30%
